I was searching thru the war-historical newsgroup and came upon this.



"I've been anxiously awaiting Hearts of Iron for a long time. I bought it
today. It will be going back tomorrow.

Why? Watch the opening movie.

The movie opens with a picture of Sir Winston Churchill superimposed
over the British flag. Fine.

The scene fades to Tojo or Hirohito's picture superimposed over the
Japanese flag. Fine

The scene fades to Stalin's picture superimposed over the Soviet flag. Fine.

The scene then fades to F D Roosevelt's picture superimposed over the
USA flag for about one second and then a picture of Adolph Hitler fades
in and grows to cover half of the USA flag. The German flag never
replaces the flag of the United States and Hitler's picture ends up
almost filling half the screen with the flag of the US waving in the
background!

Someone at Paradox screwed the pooch really bad. Is this just a gaff or
is someone in a European software house making a political statement?

Some of you may consider that I'm being overly sensitive or over
reacting but this thing goes back to Babbages where I bought it if it's
open tomorrow or Friday if it's not. No company that makes a movie like
the opening movie in HOI will ever get my money again."


Every person has the right to their own opinion. Personally I think he is looking a little too into it. What do you think?

as for his statement I think he sees political statement when there is only a succession of images of WW2 ending with the presentation of the two principal opponents US (the flag) and Germany (Hitler and no German flag for the reasons we all know...)

Having not yet seen the images in question, I can only go on what was quoted by the starter of this thread. Certainly it sounds as if the original author of the comment is overreacting, but he does have a point - it's fine if Paradox isn't going to include the symbols of Hitler and his regime for legal reasons, but they could have found a better way of introducing him to the game then superimposing his image over the US flag. Why couldn't they fade the US flag out along with FDR's image and filled the flag space with a tank or something for Hitler?

I realize that this was an untintentional gaff on Paradox's part (again, as I understand it) but they really have no excuse for any kind of political correctness error given they themselves have chosen the ultimate use of political correctness by leaving out the historical German flag. They can't have it both ways, IMHO.

Along with the narrative, I thought that image was a clever and quite disturbing way of showing how Hitler could've ended up with the US in his pocket (well, in the game at least. ).
The person who posted this clearly is an over-politicized paranoid delusional.

To think that someone could find a picture of Hitler over a picture of the US offensive. Seems so ignorant to me. On of those 'let's make a statement' kinda things.

I completely hate that. Getting overly-righteous for the stupidest reason.

Then again, I did get kicked out of school for starting a website that critised a school policy, lol. Let freedom ring. Suuure.
