The purpose of this thread is to consolidate customer opinions about HoI4's peace conference mechanic.

Proposed Solutions:

a solution I would suggest is making it so in peace conferences:
1) neutral cost for each territory and then a modifier if you are the occupying force to make it way cheaper and reverse to make it more expensive if you aren’t
2) countries get first dibs on territories they occupy regardless of war score. That would eliminate a situation where for example you are soviets and occupy Finland but America goes first and puppets them and takes your entire purpose

Just allow the single player to make all choices for all nations. Only way to guarantee the single player avoids the border gore.

It should at least be an option.

(Thank you @justtxyank and @American Traveler for proposing solutions. Well done!)

----------------------------------------

the broken peace conferences make the game really unfun

Other infamous possibilities from peace conferences include:
  • By far the most frequent source of crashes in HoI4
  • AI chain passing to lock other nations out of peace conference entirely, even if they have 33% war participation
  • Getting your own puppets randomly annexed by other nations in peace conferences where you are the victor, depriving you of >80% of your accessible starting manpower
Peace conferences need to be burnt to the ground.

Please help me get the idea of those weired peace conference rules. Or is it just bad design? It's a very critical core mechanic, so it should work fine!

But yeah, the peace system is bonkers.

I lost all of my occupied territories, because UK decided to create puppeted democratic Germany and Austria. I did get NOTHING. Like wtf? Is that how this peace conferences are supposed to work?

Most people who regularly play HoI4 in single player know that peace conferences are hot garbage.

Yes, peace conferences are well known for ruining campaigns. Welcome to HoI4.

I highly doubt you’ll see an official fix in the next two years. player led peace conferences is a must have mod. Must have.

The devs have stated they want to improve the peace conferences already

That sounds like a perfect solution, hope someone from the team takes this into consideration.

Improving peace conferences

There is more feedback. If I have time, I'll add the other insights, too.

I think peace-deals need to become more dynamic.

Like why do colonies sometimes fall with their master? Or why does occupation count for so little? In my latest game I almost singlehandedly took out the British, yet I received Australia instead.

I'd like to see peace planned in advance, and then readjusted through diplomacy and/or war.

The building blocks are there, war-goals, white peace, occupation transfer. It just needs to be fleshed out with an AI that can use it and a few new things like conditional surrender.

As a closing statement I think it could be really cool if operation unthinkable could start because either side felt unhappy with the treaty.

The peace conference is in theory a terrific mechanic, one that could really distinguish HoI4- it's unfortunate that it's not up to par.

It's also a mechanic that is very infrequently encountered, but has *enormous* consequences when it is, so it needs to be far more intuitive and user friendly and better explained in addition to any mechanical changes it needs.
