I like the direction in making the species functionally different (similar to the different types of FTL); not sure about the balance of some of these but I'm sure it'll work out.

I think my first species is gonna be weak, solitary, slow breeding intelligent, talented and charismatic space foxes. Or ravens. I haven't decided yet.

I wonder who will take "Very Strong", doubling the "Strong" bonus for four times the point cost (then I guess they currently are in the stage were things like this are being balanced).
It's possible the positive impact is nonlinear within the game mechanics. For example, +40 army strength might mean you are unstoppable in invasions.

Can't. There is a limit of four traits (good or bad), to prevent exploiting the system. Wiz mentions it in the Blorg stream.

Really, I can't blame them, since a slave heavy, robot or even egalitarian empire can make up for certain types of weak traits really easily.

Also some of these (and on the wiki), are definitely not current. Blorg stream has slow breeders at 15% rather than 10%

@AKicebear- its +40% damage, so definitely not nonlinear. 5 armies just deal roughly the damage of 7 armies (but still only take the damage of 5).

you can have a maximum of 4 traits... they did that so that people can't just pick everything

Doubling the damage of your army is linear to the cost of the trait, but in battle it may mean you curb stomp all planetary defenses and can steamroll 5 planets with an army that would otherwise be depleted after 1 invasion. Without knowing the exact land combat mechanics we can't say for sure, but it's feasible.

Ah, understandable I guess. I'll go with talented, intelligent, weak and solitary then. Or maybe quick learners, are the skill levels those little stars the leaders get? Cuz unless talented boosts a maximum cap quick learners would probably make more sense.

I'm intrigued by making a Great Leader build: using Venerable and Quick Learner, offset by two minor disadvantages like Weak or Sedentary. My scientists and generals will level up faster and will remain in play for far longer, letting them reach extraordinary heights of ability.

Then all the party invites will be ours.

I'm also intrigued by how expensive the +Army Damage traits are. It suggests that ground combat will matter much more in this game than I'd thought.

I dont think you could pick those together as it would cost 5 points, and to get 5 points you would need a third bad one as you start with a free 2, but as they said you can only have a total of four good or bad no matter their actual vaule

such as if you wanted extremely adaptive your other three would be bad ones

Do you only start with two points? I thought it was four. Sadface.

Ah well. Hopefully the same build will still work, if not as powerfully, using Enduring instead of Venerable.

I'm hoping for more points personally. Not a lot more, say maybe 4 points to start if we have a 4 trait limit or keep the 2 point start but let us have 6 traits total. It's a decent sized list. Lots of possible combinations.

Paradox Games Rule 34: There's a mod for that.

Paradox Games Rule 35: If there isn't a mod for that, it's being made.

Would the +1 food of agrarian be for each planet or for each tile that produces food? If it is the later then is that a very powerful trait. I shall go for agrarian and/or rapid breeder in my first game, faster population grown causes everything to grown faster. The first level of pacifism also gives +10% food with manageable penalties, to boost growth further. Fanatic collectivist could raise population grown even further.

Good question. On first glance my gut says it's a straight +1 to your food production. While it doesn't seem like much, it could get you a pop a few turns earlier than everyone else and you can snowball from there, so I can see it being worth 2 points. +1 food per tile seems like it would a huge advantage and should probably cost 5 points, which is the most something can cost. Given that we have 2 starting points and can get 3 negative traits to afford the single 5 point good trait.

Decent sized list for the start but i hope DLC or updates are going to add more. Like zealous or a trait for thoses races who don't eat so much etc... Would like to see some negative traits that are going to give 2 traits points too.
