Hi all,

is it possible to make the AI subject to "fog of war" and how?

Regards, Oldtimer

The AI knows all...sees all...no way to modify that AFAIK

The unlimited naval range for the AI is completely ridiculous. I've seen JAPANESE cruisers in the Mediterranean, German DESTROYERS in Canadian waters, and Italian CRUISERS near the Falkland Islands! Gah!!!

It's necessary. The AI isn't capable of thinking about where it wants to be and then deciding what naval base it wants to capture or build to get it there, so it has to be allowed to cheat or it would be a pushover at sea.

Please keep this on-topic; previous threads with lists of AI cheats have been locked because someone went off-topic. This is about AI cheating, not AI incompetence.

Somewhat off-topic, but still..

Tell that to Kasparov.

People tend mention the one time Kasparov lost against a comp alot.
Somehow this seems to be the "proof" that comps are better than humans at chess. What non-chess players does not seem to understand is why Kasparov lost. It was a short gameseries( 4-6 games or something like that). Sure that's entertainment, but not to be taken to seriously. If you take a look at the games, and especially the comments in publications like new in chess etc, you will notice that Kasparov outplayed the computer strategically in the first game he lost, but made "simple" tactical mistakes so the computer could win. The reason for this was probably bad shape. Kasparov had a bad tournament. Immediatly after the loss, Kasparov challenged the computer company for a rematch. This was declined... .So after several (3-4 ?) tries the computer finally got lucky. My point is that even for "easy" games like chess, A.I still has problem understanding strategic concepts. They lack that thing called "vision". So, I think it's unfair to complain about game A.I with some reference to chess programs. They are good at calculating, but not so good at strategic thinking. And since we play strategic games...

I thought AI air units had unlimited range as well. I saw Canadian aircrafts bombing Eastern Poland from airbases in England in 1939...

Air units don't have unlimited range. They were probably flying out of a Polish airbase, which I've seen them do - while the Poles almost always rebase to England and start bombing my defending division in Kiel. :)
