Why does southern Florida become independent from the US in 1846? The timeline doesn't explain, and hardly anyone lived in the part of Florida shown as independent on the map back then, prior to the invention of air conditioning. Florida was a very small state, with most of the population concentrated in the north (Pensacola-Tallahasee-Jacksonville) before that. Is it the Seminoles?

After many border incidents, the US occupies Florida. Pockets of Seminole Indians and runaway slaves put up a stiff resistance in Peninsular Florida, eventually driving out the Americans.

Scotland has much the same status within The UK as, say, Bavaria has within Germany. (Don't pull me up over this; I know the arrangemnts are not totally similar, but I'm giving the fellow some measure of reasonable comparison.)

I think there might be an event for the declaration of the Turkish Republic, but then again, maybe not. Turkey was only declared eighty years ago, some two whirlwind years after Victoria ends.

I hope the event is in there, maybe as an option in the Young Turk revolutions. There was on in the 80s I think, one in 1908 maybe, and then the third that saw the triumvirate rise to power. There will probably be a historical choice, a more severe backlash, or a complete cave-in, which would lead to a Turkish republic.

I certainly hope so. Turkey was amazing in its preservation of a medieval state, but they could not pull it off forever.

Actually my point was, in case Turkey (this way or another) declares republic, is the country still going to be called Ottoman Empire, since that is the only tag for Turks. It is the same as having Union of Romanov Socialst States or Republique de Bourbonnaise.

You can only go so far in setting up names that work in all circumstances... (think of the permutations) The Ottoman Empire existed throughout the period, and it is named as such.

Being able to declare republic is good news.. but don't you realize how funny it is to have an Ottoman Republic? Most people forget that Ottoman name comes from the founder of a dynasty called Osman? So it is Republic of Osman(li) in turkish. Like Republic of James or Peter
