Linux version totally broken (Kubuntu 15.04 with Nvidia GTX 970)

Nvidia proprietary drivers 346.59, system up-to-date.

Game launches, map is displayed and animated, but no menus or GUI elements appear whatsoever. Had to Alt-F4 to close the process down.

Did not find any relevant log in the game directory - where does the game writes its logs?

Just for the record, the game works under on my Windows 7 partition. This problem is specific to Kubuntu in my case. Can post some system info file if required.

Minor note: the game works just perfect under Fedora 22 x86_64 with mesa drivers -- have you tried uninstalling nvidia drivers (if just to check that it's not a driver problem)?

It's not a driver problem. My OpenGL rendering works perfectly fine in every application that require it, including the desktop effect hw acceleration. Even the in-game map renders correctly, only no control elements appear, so I guess it cannot be a simple "driver problem", since the driver obviously provide rendering capabilities even to the game.

Do you know where the game stores its logs? Could not find anything.

Small update today, no change, still does not work.

I'm running the game on Ubuntu 14.04 with a GeForce GTX 570 without any issues. Could you try to describe the issue in more detail? Does the issue appear at the main menu, or does it appear once you launch a game?

I would suggest to do a complete re-install of the game. To make sure there isn't anything wrong with the actual files or anything. Remember to also delete the Crusader Kings II folder at "/home/USERNAME/.paradoxinteractive/Crusader Kings II". This is where the game stores all save games, logs etc. BUT REMEMBER TO BACKUP any save game you want to keep before your delete everything!

There is no Menu, only rendering of the map that servers as a background for the menu. The map is animated, but the game does not proceed to display the menu, DLC store, anything.

Can I start the game in some sort of debug mode so that it produces any interesting information? I have already completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled it again, to no avail. Will try to delete that dir.

Deleted the dir, the game offered me to start a tutorial game, choose a language.

Strangely enough, when I choose the tutorial game, it starts and can be played without problems!!! Everything works, menus, province info, etc.

However, if I choose normal game, or if I resign the tutorial game and the game is supposed to quit to the main menu, the old bug occurs again.

So I guess the problem is somewhere within the main menu. My bet is on the DLC shop access - the game obviously waits for something (I/O operation, network connection?) to finish, but that never happens, so it just waits indefinitely.
