After a month-long break, I started playing CK3 again with the latest version 1.10.2.

Early in the game, I felt a hint of sluggishness that I was not experiencing before (the map not always moving as smoothly, etc.).

But now, I am at a point where CK3 crashes after some usage (roughly a month game time) ; this has already happened twice, and had never happened before.

In the latest instance, the crash is due to memory exhaustion : the kernel log shows
18/09/2023 22:22 kernel Out of memory: Killed process 81135 (ck3) total-vm:14168892kB, anon-rss:8743624kB, file-rss:52048kB, shmem-rss:280kB, UID:1000 pgtables:20660kB oom_score_adj:0
CK3 was using more than 14GB memory !

I think it is important to note that the symptoms of memory swapping (disk access and gradual loss of responsiveness of the whole system) became definitely noticeable when the game was paused while I was designing the travel route to join a tournament. Things probably had started to slide earlier (maybe since game start !), but there is obviously a bug where something is eating memory, even when the game time is not progressing.

Note that my system has 16GB of RAM and a 8GB swapfile. The swapfile is encrypted, but that should not be a concern for CK3 (which should be more than satisfied with the 16GB RAM anyway).

Operating System: Kubuntu 22.04
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Kernel Version: 5.15.0-83-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11
Processors: 8 × Intel® Xeon® CPU E3-1245 v5 @ 3.50GHz
Memory: 15.5 Gio of RAM
Graphics Processor: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650/PCIe/SSE2 (nvidia/525.125.06)

From what you say this is either a game bug, or your machine is filling up memory and swap file with other stuff. If you increase that swap file to say 16gb as a test, does that help?

If not I suspect this is a game bug, perhaps confined to Linux, so would need to be reported in the Bug Reports forum.
