[LINUX] CK2 Crashes When Processing Flags

Hi,

CK2 keeps crashing when I am attempting to start the game at the "Processing Flags" stage. I have already tried removing the flags directory in gfx and then check the game cache to force a redownload as well as attempt to download the whole game to no avail.

I also tried the beta (2.2.1.3) as well as the older versions avaliable on steam but I cannot get this to start. I am on openSUSE 13.1 with the Nvidia Proprietary drivers (346.16).

I am able to launch EUIV perfectly fine as well as play all my other Linux games perfectly fine so the issue is something with CK2.

Any help you can give me will be much appreciated.

Has CK2 ever worked for you on this machine?

Try bypassing the launcher. In Steam-CK2-properties-Set launch Options paste in

-skiplauncher

Does that help at all?

Yes I have been able to play CK2 fine on this exact version of openSUSE fine in the past before (over 100 hours). I will try with skiplauncher tomorrow and report back on if it worked.

The weird thing is I can launch the windows version perfectly fine in WINE so it has to be something with the Linux version and not my system itself having driver issues, etc.

I'm not sure if you know, but Ubuntu is the only officially supported distro for this game.

Yeah but I dont see why it wont run in openSUSE especially when it ran before and when the WINE version does run. Anyways tried with -skiplauncher and it did not help

Any other ideas?

Turn off the Steam Community Overlay, perhaps?

Are there any errors recorded in the Linux logs?

You say you "tried removing the flags directory in gfx " ... how about removing that whole /home/user/.paradoxinteractive/Crusader Kings II/ folder? Obviously move any valued save games elsewhere first.

Ahhhhh I did not know about .paradoxinteractive! In the error.log file:

[technology.cpp:718]: Missing Tech seed values:
[technology.cpp:755]: None.
[virtualfilesystem.cpp:680]: Could not open file: gfx/flags/flagfiles.txt, error: Value too large for defined data type

I removed the .paradoxinteractive folder and that solved the issue. Thank you *so much* I really appreciate it!
