This is a graphical bug caused by playing on Linux. As you can see from the video above, all the text is very low rex, pixilated and fuzzy. On top of this, all of the trees on the map have gone a bit funny (my guess due to antialiasing which cannot be edited in the menu). It's really irritating and makes the game pretty unplayable as it is so harsh on the eyes!

I'm playing on Kubuntu 14.04. Any ideas on fixes would be great!

Sorry, what do you mean by "caused by playing on windows"?

Try turning the trees off.

What exact video card and driver are you using?

Sorry, my bad, apparently I couldn't do english that day xD

About the trees thing, how would I do that? I couldn't find an option in the menu and also wouldn't I still have the pixilated writing and borders?

My specs are:

OS : Kubuntu 14.04
Graphics Card : Intel Integrated HD Graphics 4600
Graphics Driver : Whatever the default one was (sorry, not sure how to find this out)

Edit documents/ck2/settings.txt to say trees=no

I'm no Linux guru, so can you please get help from Kubuntu support on how to see what driver you have, and how to update it to the latest.

Since that video itself is overcompressed, pixelated and fuzzy, I can't tell if this is the same bug, but just in case it is I'm posting to this thread.

I've just got the game, and when running on linux the map is rendered with serious artefacts, which are especially noticeable on text. If you zoom in the image, you can notice that every 5th column of pixels is a duplicate of the adjacent one (you can also see that on the coastline):

ytk4Xjw.png

These columns are fixed relative to the screen rather than the map, and one might think this looks almost as if the map was rendered at 1024x1024, and then scaled up to the native 1280x1024 without smoothing. I've found that an effective workaround is to use the windowed mode with any window height other than 1024, so this post is mainly so that it could hopefully be fixed, or in case someone else has the same problem.

I'm running on Fedora 20 (so not the officially recommended distribution) with binary NVidia driver 331.67.

I see the current driver is 340.46 , can you try that?

Also have you played around with stuff like anti-aliasing, Vsync and so on?

There seem to be no packages for Fedora with 340.46, so I installed even newer 343.22 from the upcoming Fedora 21 repo, and the bug is still there. Out of interest I also tried what happens with window size 1152x1024, and found that in this case you get every 9th column duplicated, which actually agrees with the 1024x1024 scaled up theory.

For now I edited settings.txt to use a windowed 1280x1026 mode (an odd height for some reason breaks things like trait icons), and configured KDE to strip the window frame and place it over everything. This effectively results in fullscreen, except that some resources are wasted on rendering two invisible rows of pixels beyond the bottom of the screen. I also force 4x MSAA antialiasing through the driver to smooth borders a bit; excessive antialiasing actually makes things blurry, but this seems a good setting. Antialiasing options seem to have no observable connection whatsover with the duplicated column glitch.
