When species are generated at game start there does not seem to be any checks to stop the same portrait from being assigned to multiple species. It would be nice if there could be a check that stopped this from happening as it is frustrating having at least two empires in almost every game sharing the same main species portrait but different species name. This has been around since at least 2017/2018 when I last made a post about this.
This is one of those 'cool the first time' things but after the 50th time it's just frustrating. Heck if you do change this it could also make for an interesting Origin to allow two species to have the same portrait but different names. It could be something like precursor or divine intervention kinda like the Altarians from Galactic Civilizations.
