I am a very big fan of naval combat. In HOI i can build massive amounts of warships early in the game and upgrade over time as needed. I hope that HOI2 will at least limit or have building facilities (dry docks) as a one for one to capital ships (Battleships, Battlecruisers, Carriers, Cruisers) under construction. I have read that HOI2 will have factories for classes of tanks and other equipment, why not the same for building capital ships. Invest in naval construction sites early so as to build a greater number of capital ships. Also an enemy could attack this sites and stop or delay there construction.

Yes, I'm also with it.
In HOI2, it seems to be possible to build or upgrade seaports (or?), so maybe its also possible to build capital ships only in big ports or only as many as big ports are available.

I concur aswell.

And while they're at it, the Paradoxians might also introduce production limits/gearing limits for armor and aircraft ... but I think I remember reading that gearing limits are already implemented ...

the new port-system will certainly be a revalation ...

I agree. I think coastal provinces should have dockyards and you can build as many ships as your dockyards allow you to build.

Yes, and off course they can be "improved" like IC, AA, fortifications etc :)

I agree and hopefully bomb the ports to reduce their effectiveness as well

I'll just add one more voice to the choir here...I'd very much like upgrade capabilities (though upgrading ships should be limited in some way...upgrading old pre-war vessels all the way up to a 1945 technology level shouldn't be feasible...but taking them quite a bit of the way should)...

I'm also all in favour of gearing limits and other similar stuff that brings those old IC's more to life, so to speak...

Yes i mention this in another topic i made (Improvements for HOI2) just not right to build large vessel like the huge battlewagons unless the shipyards have the room for it. Would like to see the shipyards in actions (animations) to see how much is already build like closeup views. :)

That Yamato class warship is so huge and powerful, but take along time to build them. I rather build handful of carrier groups than battleships.

For instance in the Pacific Areas, some places have to build docks and harbors for refueling the vessels as well supplies/unsupplies there, like in Rabaul or Guadacanal.

Samn for Airfields too.

All the ships under construction should have a province where they are being built. If you conquer that province you may have a new unconstructed warship for your navy or that warship may be destroyed in a battle in that province. Another way to damage or destroy that ship is to launch an air attack on that province.

Oh yes, but the chance to totally destroy a ship under construction should not be to high, but the chance of delaying the finish date would be cool

If i conqueur a province that has unfinish warships, i prob scap it for raw iron pool. Plus is there any big guns avab i would have the turrets moved and place them on shore coastal defense. :D That what Hitler would have done too.

i'm not so sure this is needed. i agree with most of the things you all are saying, but why artificially limit ship construction potential? with differently-sized shipyards there will probably be a restriction that only the bigger yards can build ships, which is fine, but i don't see why limiting the number is also necessary. if you want to put 12 battleships in the build queue, go ahead. that just means you'll have fewer resources to devote to more critical areas.

also, i'm sure there were some shipyards that were capable of working on more than one cap ship at once. if you make a limit, whatever it is, people will complain "but shipyard X built way more ships than that all at the same time!"

also, i don't know if gearing limits are in or not, but i think they are a wasted effort as well. several combatants in WW2 were forced to convert civilian facilties to wartime production very quickly. entire factories were moved, people built planes and vehicles outside when their factories were being bombed, infantry weapons were made in basements, etc. etc. once again, if you choose to focus your production in one area, a well-balanced opponent will crush you (assuming the game is able to use all three unit types ably).

delaying build time due to bombing runs over the target province or factory is a cool idea though.

//just my opinion

Bombing, say, the Tirpitz while it is being built would be nice...but I kind of doubt we'll see that (has anyone seen any hints pointing in that direction?)...but it would be nice indeed...

Maybe there should be some sort of technology that allows the "construction" of ship yards large enough to construct capital ships. In the WWII there were not that many countries that could construct a BB or CV. But that would also take some of the fun out of the game as you attempted to build up the Great Mongolian Fleet :D

Another thing I would like to see is the ability to build the ships over a longer period of time for less IC.

When you load the game up as Germany or any other major nation, there's always a handful of ships being built that only cost 1-3 IC, but take almost three years to complete. For nations like America, who are seriously handicapped by war entry, or Germany, who has to crank out as many land divisions as possible to survive, it would be nice to lay down the hulls of 5 to 10 extra ships in 1936 for only a total of 20 IC or so. The ships wouldn't be ready until 1940, or even later, but it would give a nation like Germany the opportunity to more effectively contest the British at sea if they so desired, or America the chance to actually see something progress while they're waiting for something to happen in the world. ;)

Not to mention, it seems more realistic for peacetime. Not committing large portions of industry to the construction of warships, but instead, a more laid back construction process. Of course, when the war starts and ships are being sunk, you'll only naturally want to get them out the door faster, and you couldn't wait four years for a new battleship to get out there.

IIRC There already is one in HOI, but just about everyone seems to have it!
