As Hansa I've claimed Luneberg, since my ally and bestest friend, honest, Brandenburg is going to take it otherwise. I ally with England as security and on the declare war dialog it says England won't join (nor will my other allies Norway and Magdeburg) - but Brandenburg are a 'Yes' so that's OK!

Except, they joined on the Luneberg side. They were guaranteeing the independence and that must not be taken into account in the Yes/No dialog. I request that be fixed! I just did a 'justifiable reload' (using the latest beta so not Ironman ;) )

Makes sense to me. However guaranteeing a nation doesn't throw it into the war instantly, right? The nation still has to decide. Could it work if you have two free diplomats and declare war with one while sending the other to Brandenburg to Call to Arms on the same day?

Doesn't it say in the declare war screen before you declare what countries are guaranteeing the target nation's independnece?

Defensive call to arms are considered before offensive call to arms. If Brandenburg had decline the defensive call to arms from Luneburg, they would have accepted your defensive call to arms, but they accepted the defensive call to arms and that prevented Brandenburg from even considering your offensive call to arms.

OK - but that should be reflected in the algorithm for what is displayed. If it says they will join my war, then they don't, they are LIARS! Yes, I could indeed see they were guaranteeing Luneberg but it wasn't clear that that would take precedence.

But no big deal, on the reload they DOW'ed Bohemia looking for Breslau (I joined and then DOW'ed Luneberg shortly afterwards - no Brandenburg involvement - in my last game as Brandenburg/Prussia I would never have DOWed Bohemia in 1470 - nutters!) and Luneberg's other allies DOW'ed some other German minors too. I'm laughing. Although I feel sorry for Brandenburg vs the 6 shock Bohemian general, I am actually bothering to help them.

Thanks for the replies. I hope they take the defensive call precedence into account for the tooltip, in future.
