Hi all,

Just wanted to share something cool I did today which may help you save ships at some point.

I was in one of the mission scenarios and I had a bunch of missiles coming at my airfield. All of my F35s were empty or reloading. I only had 1 bird left near the missiles. That F35 also was out of weapons, it only had its gun left.

My airfield was largely unprotected. The SAMs near the airfield don't do much imho.

I decided to try a crazy plan micromanaged the F35 into position next to the missiles. I selected the gun and it fired away. Effect: all 8 missiles destroyed.

Now it takes bit of micromanaging as the AI isn't smart enough to do it right. Here's what I did:
1. Maneuver your plane to intercept the missiles. Preferably you'll end up behind the missiles.
2. Set speed accordingly. I used military speed to make sure the plane would get there in time, but so that it wouldn't go bingo by the time the action started.
3. Get to the same altitude as the missiles.
4. When you're in range of the missiles with your gun (which is pretty short) give you plane the same speed as the missiles.
5. Select the gun and hammer away. The plane should detect that it's a group and fire at all the targets.

It worked like a charm for me!

Was real proud of that plane and me for this successful action. My airfield lived to see another day ;).

I hope this helps you get through some tough times!

Seems guns are very effective against missiles, if you have time to give them the order to fire before impact.

I've had something like 80-90% hits on incoming missiles for the bofors 57mm gun, one hit, one kill.

Not sure if that is close to their real performance but I would imagine most CIWs and anti missile guns should fire off salvos instead when trying to knock down missiles ( if for no other reason then at least for game balance).
