I am in 1939 as germany now, just annexed Poland... and I thought to myself, fuck it, I'm gonna start a line of Scharnhorst's.

Yeah, I just said I'm gonna start building BC's. This is a rare moment of awesomeness over practicality.

Look at it - it's beautiful! Utter eye candy compared to the flat, ugly-faced Essex carriers or whatever that nation with over 300 IC seems to be building across the pond.

Awesome ship, probabaly most advanced gunship of ww2.
Its creditet with longest gunfire sinking of another capital ship(british carrier) in history, from 26 kilometers.

EDIT- 280 mm guns were perfect solution for this raider.Massive(battleship actualy) hull with relatively light guns, combined with superb gun positioning radar, enabled this ship to stabilise guns and deliver precise fast salvoes while fast cruising. That was something anachiavable for battleships with 400 m class guns becouse their salvoes actualy were haevily sloping(destabilising) battleship decreasing both rate of fire and precision if salvo was delivered during fast cruising.

Sharnhorst was able to intercept convoy or even fleets of weaker warships and masacre them while runing at high speed alongside them with fast serries of salvos.
Historicaly,it intercepted British carrier and its two escorting destroyers and obliterate them while crusing faster then its prey. Its like predator than runs around you and hits you with many medium-sized repeated strokes, while being to fast and armoured to give chance to catch him.

Historicaly planes were its nemesis, not any ship.

In game I think is underpowered .

For all those interested to see how the new AoD naval combat work could I recommend my exceeding short French AAR (it's just two posts long so very easy to find the relevant parts and was posted solely to detail the new naval mechanic) but it does detail a BB vs BB; a BC vs CL; DD vs SS and a combined CV/BB vs BB action.

Here: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=463005

I'll let you draw your own conclusions but do check out how various different strategies are used by the combat modifiers depending upon ship type, time and distance so spotting, speed, organisation, skill and positioning are now far more important, more so than producing simple zerg fleets.

CTFs are king in open waters starting around 1943.

In places like the Mediterranean and the English Channel, SAGs with proper air cover deliver the most damage whilst CTFs usually engage and run.

Speed is much more important now, so SHBBs are not as good as faster, more modern BBs although they do more damage.

If you are a micromanager, than it is quite possible to rule the seas with SAGs, but have fun with that as it requires coordinated action between your SAGs and your planes.
