Heh....

I tried today to play a bit as Duke of Bavaria. What really annoyed me and pissmed me off that the king when going to war was always asking for my troops. Now that alone wouldn't be a problem but why the hell should I pay for him using my army?!? I mean even after the war ended he kept holding my army for at least 3-4 months and I went into debts about 400 gps and I was about 200 in plus before that....thats enourmous for a vassal like duke in kingdom of germany...
Now that also wouldn't be a problem but I looked at other dukes and they were all at the 0(zero) gps and they just couldn't go into minus....now that really made me mad.

Why is this made this way?!

Why would he not ask for your troops if he needs them? I guess you do the same with your own vassals.

Maybe the costs should be divided between vassal and liege. I don't know how this was solved historically but surely the vassal had to pay for his troops' equipment?

Never noticed that AI never got into negative gold? I guess it would suck even more if it had to take this in consideration.

Give hom your troops and set your support slider to 0%. Your troops will be fine and all you have to do is remember to raise the support back to full when he returns them.

Fixing it the other way (via code) would take too long unless you're willing to wait until after Christmas for 1.05.

Because that's what vassals do. You outfit an army for him to use in exchange for which you have taxation rights and noble priviliges on your lands.

Vassals do not pay for the entire military campaign of their liege. I am already paying him scutage so it's only fair that if he uses my regiments(which btw. I outfited) that he also pays them and to me for that matter.

Actually it seems to me like the scutage slider works the way it should. If you demand more scutage, your vassal will provide less troops (at least according to the tooltip), which is a fair approximation of the relationship vassals had with their lord, i.e more scutage paid = less military service.

The only thing that CK doesn't do is that military service was usually for a fixed duration, past which the expense reverted to the lord. That, however, would probably require a lot of reworking.

But it doesn't work that way in mp if your liege is a human.

But in MP, smart human liege won't drive his human vassals to bankrupcy, because that is bad for the realm.

Actually just testing out how it works with a valid target. ;)

Finellach, it's more pleasant to quickly skim the forum, when you can guess what people are talking about in each thread from their title.

Another thing you can do if you don't want to deny your liege troops, is to mobilize all your regiments but one. Then when you click yes the liege only gets one regiment, which is more affordable. But unless you feel the realm is really in peril you can always click no.

I'm new to the game but I've just started my first serious attempt.

Anyway, the King of France asked me to mobilise my troops, so I did. It's now 10 years later and he won't give them back. I can see them wandering around Spain and not really doing anything. France was at war with the Fatamids, but that was several years back.

Are there any other options here other than (a) wait it out, or (b) load the game as the King and demobilise them?

If the King is still at war with someone you have to sit it out. If not, try a save-reload routine. After that, the AI might realize that it does not need the troops anymore.

Thanks for the replies. I won't let him have my troops again. There will have to be the enemies at the gates so to speak before I will agree to his requests.

Do that too often and you'll find the enemy at your gates is your liege, with a bill of attainder for your head :)
