Recently was playing a game with a few buddies as Burgundy. I picked too many fights and decided to make a colonial super power in the East coast Area of North America. The issue with this is although he became a 100+ province subject, i was still able to out do his military power but came to one roadblock. I don't know if it was an intended effect but removing the option for rulers to choose the governors of the colonies you lose that 5% reduction making it impossible to prevent uprisings when you are either waging wars or being attacked, due to war exhaustion.

This was just a few days ago in the latest hotfix with all the major DLC enabled.

I would suggest including a way to get that 5% back in another event or allow players to choose if they want the event to be under their control or the AI's. If that is the case have the burst reduction if the player chooses the governor or if the AI is under control have a -.X per month to allow the player a chance of keeping them.

Just a thought, maybe this was the intention and I don't mind it but would like more options other than leaving 50% of my army on their capitals waiting for them to revolt.

The colonial election events were very spammy and awful; I'm not unhappy that they're gone.

I'd suggest making the Exploration + Expansion policy decrease liberty desire by -0.05. That way, hardcore colonizers have a means to manage liberty desire, abet at some cost.

Well giving the player the option to remove the event or keep it is just a quick fix. I agree it was spammy but i could tolerate it to keep a superpower as my subject.
That would create the problem where the optimal strategy (choosing for your subjects > not doing so) is to make the game actively less fun. When it comes to game design, you should never force the player to choose between winning and having fun.

There does need to be some way for the player to either actively reduce liberty desire no mater what (can't reduce tariffs indefinitely, nor should you have to to keep liberty desire in check) or gives you a chance to reduce it on a regular basis. Colonial revolts should happen because you're either mismanaging your colonies, or abusing them. It shouldn't be something that inevitably happens.

Unfortunately, having a colonial nation superpower revolt against your rule isn't particularly fun. Any war against a superpower that you have to travel across a body of water for is pretty terrible in EU4 just due to the raw micromanagement aspect of it. You spend more time actually just getting troops over there than you do actually fighting the war unless you have something silly like 70 cogs lying around.

Which is why I suggested a policy to reduce liberty desire. Other methods of giving concessions to your colonial nations would be nice as well.
