Robou: This "Big Guy" has exactly three divisions of infantry which are quite suicidal to say the least. Maybe I even have to help Brazil per events to get this one interesting. It would be kind of ridiculous to steamroll them while at war with Bolivia and Paraguay, wouldn't it?

i've seen them in many games, and they get an army real quick when they are angry. Just be careful not to get your backside smoked.

Did you mean the assassination or the declaration of war from Brazil?
When I posted I meant Brazil, if Rosas would be assasinated, I didn't expect it to be the Royalists who would do it!

Will Argentina become a monarchy now, if Carlos become's king, perhaps you should get cores on Spain!

Libertad o Muerte! Pt. VIII - 1843

1843headerxp2.jpg

Plaza de Mayo - Buenos Aires

"Gathered citizens of Buenos Aires it is my duty to proclaim the foundation of the new kingdom of Platinea. The governors voted in unisono to replace the old repressive regime with a fair monarchy under the protection of our Lord. On today's afternoon Carlos I. will be crowned King of Platinea in the Metroplitan Cathedral." The pronouncer ended and stepped down from the little podium and slowly the gathered masses began to cheer.
1843proclamationiv4.jpg

Catedral Metropolitanal - Buenos Aires
1843coronationzp9.jpg

The picture on the right depicts King Carlos I. shortly after the coronation ceremony wearing the "corona del sol" (sun crown). In the center the new royal platinean flag is shown which depicts in its center the new royal coat of arms.

Royal Palace - La Plata

Prime Chancellor Don Caroso barged into the throne room. Before anyone could react he was talking at the King. "Your highness I've heard you would like to send a letter to Spain. I guess you are trying to better our diplomatic relationships with the european monarchies?" Don Caroso paused to give the King time for a thoughtful response hoping. "It seems to me that you are well informed Prime Chancellor. Actually I was dictating a letter for my niece to confront her with the unpleasant facts of real politics." King Carlos responsed. Don Caroso could feel how his stomach was twisting that wasn't the answer he hoped for. "Your highness would you please tell me what you are going to write her so I could perhaps add some unpleasant facts for her." Don Caroso asked. "Well Prime Chancellor I'm going to tell her in an official letter that my hereditary claims are not expired and that I will fight on the seven seas and on every continent to regain those territories which rightfully are my possessions." King Carlos replied. Don Caroso could sense what reactions this letter would provocate in Spain and possibly in whole europe. "My liege may I propose to send the letter with a special secret envoy to prevent unfavorable reactions from the other european powers? And perhaps we could send your nice the same message in a slightly more moderate tone for the same reason?" Don Caroso proposed. "I will think about your recommendations Prime Chancellor. But I don't think this is the right place to discuss them."
1843kingdomik8.jpg

The left picture shows the claims of King Carlos I. heritage (not shown are "Alta California" and the Phillipines). He hasn't announced his claims officially for diplomatic reasons. The portrait on the right is the most known image of Carlos I.

The first things the ne king took care of were the extension of the royal navy by a third frigate named "ARA Hector", the captured bolivian frigate "Santa Cruz" had been repaired in the meantime and was named "ARA Achilleus". Furthermore the new King approved the Generals Gutierrez, La Paz and Urquiza to commence operations against the kingdoms enemies. In these days the city of La Plata became the new capital of the kingdom.
1843capitaled3.jpg

The city of La Plata became the capital of Platinea. Political decisions were made at the royal court far away from the daily concerns of common citizens.

"Col. Ramirez you will no longer be Generalgovernor of Chile. The King told me that he will handle this affair himself." Don Caroso told the now former Generalgovernor. "As his majesty commands" Ramirez replied and nodded. "You will regain your rank of Colonel and fulfill your duty in General Gutierrez's staff. You will give General Gutierrez all necessary information and further aid to regain control over Chile." Don Caroso continued. "I guess thats all, but I recommend not to fail again Colonel."
1843chilerevoltbi5.jpg

As the news of the coronation spreaded to Chile riots broke out and grew to a rebellion against platinean supremacy. The revolutionaries took their chance and tried to take back former chilean land by declaring war on Platinea.

ARA Hector - Bay of Guanabara

The Battle of Guanabara Bay against the Imperial Navy lasted already for the entire day in the meantime night has fallen, no moon was shining only the burning hulk of the "Nau Pedro" was illuminating the scenery. In the distance Almirante Brown on Board of the "ARA Hercules" was battling the "Nichteroy" while the "ARA Achilleus" and "ARA Hector" where pursuing the "Maria da Gloria". Capitan Munoz was frustrate during the entire battle the "Hector" only fired thrice upon the enemy with questionable success now he was pursuing the "Maria da Gloria" but it seemed as this operation was doomed to failure too. In this unknown and scarcely lightened bay the brazilians managed it to get away from their pursuers. It would be only a matter of time for them to reach the safety of the harbour of Rio de Janeiro. A massive explosions thundered through the night and in the distance the "Nichteroy" went up in flames.
1843seeschlachtda8.jpg

The Battle of Guanabara Bay marked the end of brazilian naval superiority in southern america. During the battle the man-o-war "Nau Pedro I" and the frigate "Nichteroy" were sunk and the frigate "Maria de Gloria" fled from the engagement heavily damaged.

Hacienda Carazza - Miranda Province

The heat was slowly disappearing as the sun was slowly going down behind the horizon. The highly decorated officers just finished dinner and sat on the veranda with some bottles of wine. "General Bezerra I assure you that your man will be well treated and they shouldn't lack a thing." General Gutierrez told his counterpart. "But I have to proceed with my operations and thus can't afford many men to guard yours. So I need your word of honor that you and your man will obey the guards till you arrive at the barracks in Corrientes and that you don't try to break out or to run away. Can I be assured of this?" Gutierrez asked. "It's not easy for me to send my men into captivity unopposed. But I'm grateful that you spared their lives. I give you my word as officer and gentleman that my men will accept captivity and that we won't interfere in this conflict in any way. Are you satisfied General Gutierrez?"
1843schlachtmirandauf7.jpg

The Battle of Miranda was a battle of encirclement and annihilation. Both sides had to pay a high blood toll but after the battle the whole Imperial Army went into captivity. The brazilian heartlands were now wide open for the argentine troops.

Royal dispatch to the Bishops of Platinea

Dear venerated eminences,
By the will of our great Lord I have reinstituted the "Order of Jesu" and the Inquisition to purge the heretics from our lands and to spread the true faith to the pagan natives. I would recommend that you do your utmost to support the Jesuits at their holy mission.
Signed and sealed,
Carlos I., King of Platinea etc. pp.
1843inquisitiongm4.jpg

The establishment of the Argentine Inquisition was not very popular among the more liberal citizens.

Royal Palace - La Plata

"Your highness, I received a message of the former mayor of Asuncion." Don Coroso told his King. "He claims to be the envoy of the paraguayan people. In short he stated that his people have a deep desire for peace and don't want to fight anymore. He begs your highness charity and lies the fortune of his people into your hands." Don Caroso concluded. "As we expected" the King nodded. "Take the arranged actions for this case. And make sure that our neew Generalgovernor of Asuncion will be a capable man!"
1843paraguayhz7.jpg

Paraguay was nearly annexed. Only the region and city of Asuncion became an autonomous province under argentine supervision.

In the streets of Rio de Janeiro

Mothers were yelling for their children. Men were barricading the streets. The rumor of advancing argentine cavalry under the command of General Gutierrez was spreading through the city like a wildfire and the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro were loosing their heads. Another rumor reported that the imperial family already had left their residence in Petropolis in a hurry. The city was terrified of the coming up events and these would come on four hooves for sure.
1843riodejaneirokg5.jpg

General Gutierrez repeated his daring ride of '36 and occupied Rio de Janeiro again.

War Diary of General Gutierrez, Chief of the Army

December 1st. The situation on all fronts is very comfortable. Bolivian surrender is only a matter of time. Brazil left without any troops will beg for peace very soon, too. The chilean rebel troops couldn't get a hold on argentine soil. We will take care of this front in the next weeks when General Paz will arrive at this theater of war. Almirante Brown reports that he blockades the harbour of campos were the last brazilian warship anchors. The militancy of our populace is constantly rising so that the paraguayan infantry division had been commanded to quell rebellions.
1843situationdezemberhk2.jpg

In December General Gutierrez and King Carlos I. were convinced that the war would soon be over. Paraguay had already been taken out; Bolivia was facing its collapse; Brazil had no longer troops or ships to face the argentine offensive; And Chile seemed to be only a matter of time.

And btw, I am very unschooled in latin american history, are your events based on real events if possible, or is the whole thing an ATL.

Half and half...in RL Rosas fell of power in 1852 and a wealth-democratic system was set up.

Sorry folks for the delay I was on a five day trip to Bonn which made it quite impossible to update. I completed the last update, so perhaps you may read it again. Next update will be propably tomorrow online, but first I'll have to do some modding.
I hope whether the people nor the royal house of Bourbon will die of thirst while waiting.

Garra-Ush: To this point I only have cores on Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Chile. No claims on other spanish holdings or former spanish colonies.

stnylan: I'm better thinking small or I will lose due to failures in the micromanagement ;) and this AAR would become rather boring if I would long for world conquest.

Congo: Holy Archangel Michael church is somewhere in Bella Vista. I changed it to Metropolitan Cathedral because this would the most probable place for a coronation I think.

robou: Fear me not :)

Ahura Mazda: No, I still don't have any cores in Spain. But this might change in the future.

Herbert West: This AAR is at this point already a complete alternative time line.

soos: welcome and yeah  argentina

Libertad o Muerte! Pt. IX - 1844

1844headerrw3.jpg

The bolivian goverment finally surrendered and peace was dictated by King Carlos I. with the same conditions as with Paraquay. All Bolivian territory became part of the Kingdom of Platinea except for the capital province of La Paz which was granted some autonomy under the rule of a platinean generalgovernor.
1844bolivienfo6.jpg

With his ally Bolivia taken out and no army or navy left to defend the Empire the brazilian Emperor Dom Pedru II. was forced to negotiate. The peace wasn't so harsh as many expected but changed the fate of southern america.
1844treatyzo1.jpg

In may the last rebel stronghold surrendered and the last three chilean provinces were incorporated into the kingdom. The bolivian frigates "Colo Colo" and "Aguila" were incorporated into the platinean navy as "ARA Ajax" and "ARA Theseus". The chilean regiments were restructured and now build the Legion Extranjera (Foreign Legion). After over two years of constant fighting peace came again to the platinean people.
1844surrenderha8.jpg

The long war made it obvious that better medical care was needed and to accomplish this many european techniques were introduced and several hospitals founded. Thus life became a lot better for many platineans.
1844inventionvb0.jpg

Due to constant warfare many new discovered technologies weren't noticed until peacetime.
1843entwicklungvu3.jpg

1844technikvl4.jpg

The first peacetime act of king Carlos I. was the establishment of two factories. The "Royal Glass Works" in Buenos Aires an the "Royal Wood Works" in the Chaco. Finally industialization came to Platinea and people weren't sure if this will be for the better.
1844industrymj2.jpg

The Order of Jesu colonized the last unclaimed territories in South America for the platinean crown. Missions were build in Olivenca at the Amazonas and in Viedma in Patagonia.
1844colonizationvc9.jpg

King Carlos I. created the Royal Guard as his personal military body guards. He took the new guards from the ranks of the most experienced veterans who have fought in countless battles during the last years.
1844royalguardsyj4.jpg

The peace negotiations in Sao Paulo were framed with receptions and balls and other social events. It was on one of these events that Prince Juan, second son of Carlos I., and Princess Juanaria, Sister of Emperor Dom Pedru II., met. In the following weeks a romantic liaison developed and soon it became known to the public. Not everyone looked with glee upon this relationship, but king Carlos I. encouraged his son. Perhaps this liaison would distract him from his 'innovative' political views. The king was quite upset about the liberal statements of his younger son and hoped that this would just be over soon. Now that Juan was occupied with this little brazilian beauty it was time to set up some plans for the marriage of his eldest son Carlos. Queen Isabella would surely agree to marry Carlos and to settle the question for the spanish crown.
