When I search for threads on why Jews were not included in the game, some posters sometimes points out that Paradox has already explained why they couldn't implement Judaism into the game. Yet they do not link to that explanation, or cite what that explanation was. Can anyone please link to this official technical (game mechanics) explanation(s) or announcement?

And no, this is really not meant as a discussion about why there are no Jews in CKII, as those all get closed it seems and therefore please do not discuss this in this thread. It's just me asking for help to find the particular official explanation people seem to know has already been made. After I got the link, mods are naturally welcome to close the thread. Please wait, untill someone posts a link or quote, though.

Here

Sorry folks, no Judaism this time around either. Khazaria will most likely be Tengri. The reason is that each previously unplayable religion is receiving special content. Adding one more, especially one that complex, is too much.

And this is the one long before there was talk about The Old Gods

So let me get this straight are you suggesting that Jews are a renewable resource, as opposed to Buddhists in DW?

On a more serious vain this is a rather silly thread. Courtiers are courtiers are the game will generate more as required. We are not going to go to the trouble to add an additional religion just for courtiers.

@demo01
oh, and just in case you weren't aware (I know I wasn't until a few months ago) you could click the arrows to the right of the dev's name to visit the thread they posted at (and enjoy the few hundred posts and study how a thread with good intention quickly dissolves into a lockable mess :laugh: )

@Veldmaarschalk

Thank you for the speedy reply. It's a shame if that's the most detailed explanation that has been given, but if that's really all there is then that's my question answered and you are welcome to close the thread. Also, thanks for tip about the arrows in the quote, riknap.

I think "what should be in a jewish dlc?" is the wrong question to ask. A better question would be "what kind of dlc would make sense with jews as a side feature". Just like the zoroastrians, jews aren't big enough to base an entire dlc around, but must instead be added in as a side feature. Since the obvious candidate, the pagan dlc, didn't include them, the natural "fallback" would be the theocracy dlc. The previously mentioned zoroastrians are an excellent source of ideas when it comes to playable jews (they're not a very good approximation of how non-playable jews should act though). Turn the Khazars (including the one vassal in the 1066 date) jewish, add a Semian kingdom, and give them a bunch of zoroastrian/byzantine style restoration options. Like reforming the kingdom of Israel. The only real questions are when to include them (probably in a theocracy dlc) and how the jewish courtiers and events would affect non-jews
This has been mentioned before in this thread but bears repeating since so many keep saying "that jews aren't important enough to get their own dlc". That's absolutely correct, they aren't. Just like the adventurers, zoroastrians and retinues weren't important enough to get their own dlc.

Exactly, this.

As a side note, I wonder what should be done about culture, as names for, say, a Jewish advisor in the Kingdom of Aragon or the Taifa of Cordoba (two places where Jews were both rather numerous, but also held in much higher regard than they were in the most other places) would probably would work best to be kept Hebrew. We don't necessarily need Hebrew names, though, as they really only apply to the courtiers, not so much for the Khazars, so perhaps a Hebrew culture wouldn't be needed, after all.

The names should be in ladino maybe? The culture sephardi? Example of a ladino song.

As I mentioned in the other thread, a good goal could be restoring the sanhedrin/exilarch council in Iraq, Cordoba or Western Europe.

Why you created another thread OP? The other one was fine.

The other thread was made a few days ago. It had actually been bumped a couple of pages down, due to the mass amounts of threads created at the release of the Old Gods, but was bumped up as it was linked to in the other thread.

I always a assumed it was because, after WW2, persecution of Jews has become a somewhat controversial subject. It is well known that Jews were heavily persecuted in Medieval times, especially around the time of the crusades. horrific events such as Pogroms occurred. I assumed paradox didn't want to open up that can of worms and risk backlash. As much as I would like to see the jewish religion in the game, I dont know if it will happen.
