Where the hell am i supposed to get 1 gold a month to pay 500 men in 1100?
If you can't afford that, then you are in no position to create retinue in the first place. How is it that you can build retinue with such a small realm?

I am Emperor of Britannia though. I have the full British mainland, 6 gold income. Unless these retinue upkeep cost numbers are bullshit, i can only afford a couple of thousand skirmish soldiers. If you can't afford that, then you are in no position to create retinue in the first place. Lucky you i guess. I always choose the 1066 start and never anyone big.As HRE, i have income of 100+ per month, and easilly afford 30+k retinues.
Well, I started as count of Brandenburg, 1066, and got myself HRE.Lucky you i guess. I always choose the 1066 start and never anyone big.
In my Britannia game I was making about 27 gold before I started eat up France (I went Fraticelli so could Holy War them), what are your laws? Sounds like you need to increase taxes on people.I am Emperor of Britannia though. I have the full British mainland, 6 gold income. Medium crown authority, high city tax, no vassal tax, no church tax. I'm afraid of collapse after succession because my kings are fairly mediocre. I have NEVER, not in my whole 220hrs of game time, put up vassal tax. Its the year 1120 in my current playthrough, no rebellions since i became King (started as Earl of Atholl) then Emperor, but I still don't want to risk it. I'm guessing that vassal tax gives a huge boost 0_0, i will try it later today. In my Britannia game I was making about 27 gold before I started eat up France (I went Fraticelli so could Holy War them), what are your laws? Are you playing with CK2+? Money is much harder to come by in that modWell, I started as count of Brandenburg, 1066, and got myself HRE.
Are you taxing your nobles?

Tax nobles, at least at minimum rate.Medium crown authority, high city tax, no vassal tax, no church tax. I'm afraid of collapse after succession because my kings are fairly mediocre. I think you may have misunderstood how retinues are paid - you only pay for them when they're reinforcing, they don't cost you gold when they're just sitting around.Where the hell am i supposed to get 1 gold a month to pay 500 men in 1100?
Levies got the cultural buildings bonus, don't know if retinues get that bonus? If they don't then levies are stronger.
Easy if you know how:Where the hell am i supposed to get 1 gold a month to pay 500 men in 1100?
1. Use 'matchmaker' tool from mod section on your savegame and search for men of your religion with at least 1 claim and invite to your court, appoint as your steward. then assign him to increase income in your county.
Hm right, I never knew that. Sadly these things aren't explained well so i never had reason to find out.I think you may have misunderstood how retinues are paid - you only pay for them when they're reinforcing, they don't cost you gold when they're just sitting around.
You should check the tooltips for new features. Otherwise you might miss lot of the changes in dlc's.Hm right, I never knew that. Sadly these things aren't explained well so i never had reason to find out.
