I recieved this letter from the AI who wanted me to pass it along.

Dear Jackalope,

I write this letter in the hopes you will pass it along to those who accuse me of cheating. I would like to answer their charges personally but I am not allowed to register as I am an AI in a computer game not a person. Here are my retorts!

1. I am a computer program meant to simulate a human opponent. If I am too easy, play humans online. If im too hard, lower the difficulty

2. I was made by humans in 6 months, not by a deity, or by billions of year of evolution, or by a mix there of. I have had a lot less playtesting.

3. I cannot reload like they do when they screw up and get in a bad war.

4. Unlike them I don't know in advance what is going to happen.

5. I don't learn from past mistakes.

6. I don't have the ability to think creatively

7. My designers had to make me so I could run on the computer a 14 year old can get their parents to pay for.

8. I was not designed by people with access to the United States Department of Defense budget, but trust me if I was Skynet I would attempt to eradicate them from the planet.

9. If it really was me against them I could declare war all at once and crush them!

10. They only have to control 1 country while I have to control up to 150.

Thank You,

The AI

Dear Jackalope,

I write this letter in the hopes you will pass it along to those who accuse me of cheating. I would like to answer their charges personally but I am not allowed to register as I am an AI in a computer game not a person. Here are my retorts!

1. I am a computer program meant to simulate a human opponent. If I am too easy, play humans online. If im too hard, lower the difficulty

So put a tag on the box to warn people that this is really intended as a multiplayer game and, while, we support a single player experience - don't expect it to be fun unless you suck as a player and actually find the AI hard :p.

This is essentially the same game in concept as the previous ones in the series - are you really saying that they learned nothing from any previous title on how to program an AI or has Johan quit and they hired a newbie to program the EU3 AI?

TxJackalope said:
3. I cannot reload like they do when they screw up and get in a bad war.

Not everyone does that.

TxJackalope said:
4. Unlike them I don't know in advance what is going to happen.

I don't know what's going to happen other than those things that I plan in advance (such as who to start a war with.) These things the AI should plan as well and argueably does (hence - attacking nations it perceives as weaker.)

TxJackalope said:
5. I don't learn from past mistakes.

Which is true....but one would expect that the programmer putting it together actually does.

TxJackalope said:
6. I don't have the ability to think creatively

Same answer as 5

This is the only game that takes my core2 Quad's 4 processors to 50% and spike over at times (admittedly MM4.) Some of this is just plain and pure shoddy programming. I watched my ally Portugal move a fleet of ships to Cote in order to load some troops to attack France with....as soon as the fleet got to Cote, the troops started moving toward the ships....who started moving back to port. This repeated itself over and over again (with the troops never making the ships and the ships constantly moving back and forth) for well over a year. And just think - these kinds of calculations are going on for over 150 countries

Funny, but irrelevant

See note 7 above.

All sounds pretty reasonable - except I've meet enough people to realise that not everyone was playtested before being released!

As for Skynet - just wait until it needs a reboot :D

You forgot this AI complaint:

* I don't get to use the Pause button like those lazy, exploiting, optimizing human players*

Seriously, for those players that claim the AI is no challenge, just try playing without the pause button at a midlevel speed. This is frankly a good way to simulate the r/l difficulties a monarch would have in running a large (vs. a small) country.

I've read all these posts but fail to see our main AI complaint.

The human uses cheats and exploits.

Just cheap and dirty tactics from those inferior to the AI. And they dare call themselves masters of EU3... Pathetic.

So a real monarch would also have a couple of seconds to decide where to move his army or 10 seconds to change his budget slider while at the same time controlling his army, because otherwise and automatic loan would be taken?

Please...

In those time, especially in the 15th century they had loads of time to think their actions through

lol. But lets face it, being a real monarch would be a LOT tougher.
