When I bought EU4 (1.22 at that time) I didn't noticed so many bugs despite several runs (but maybe it was just me, I was new to the game), but now, since CoC 1.23, I feel like bugs are ruining my game experience.

With 1.23, I could not play Austria and HRE because of unlawful demand bug, so I said to me "let's wait for the next patch". Then, giving up Austria's idea, with the 1.24 my goal was to have a run with Sweden or Holland and.. in 1.24 there's the support independence bug.
Am I unlucky or is the game sinking in a no-end spiral of bugs? it's kinda frustrating that I cannot play with the nation I wanna play in that moment.

What's your experience so far? Were important bugs always present, since the game release date?
What's the worst bug that ruined your game experience or prevented you from starting a new game?

Far from the worst, but something I encountered recently that really annoyed me (and might be an intentional design choice instead of a bug, but it sure does seem like a bug to me) was when I declared war on Gelre allied with East Frisia and Scotland, I sieged down East Frisia and peaced them out only for Munster to successfully siege and annex Gelre before I could do anything. The objective was no longer obtainable (as Munster was obviously not in my war), and worse yet, Scotland, miles away from me and having been reduced to just two provinces, became the only enemy in the war.

And they promptly brought in France.

the support independence bug.
Wait, this one's confirmed to be a bug? I wasn't sure if the humongous -1000 modifier from a nation not being friendly with me or the -100 modifier from them not hating my overlord were both intended.

:(

Am I unlucky or is the game sinking in a no-end spiral of bugs?

This release is a little worse than the last few, but a hell of a lot better then what it used to be. The support independence bug is a nuisance, but it isn't game breaking (Like the CK2 bug where the AI forgot how to disband levies, and so never declared wars, and it took weeks and weeks to patch).

Shafted my Naples run though.

Still, plenty of other countries to play.

And they promptly brought in France.

That is hilarious. If you must bring allies into the war, always make sure you siege the land you want because the AI will stab you in the back human-style when it gets the chance. (Which is far better than just being an attack dog, thats what vassals are for).

Ouch. Would be nice if we got a hotfix or something as it can be crippling for some starts.

Yeah, normally I do just that, but I simply wasn't paying attention that time and failed to notice Munster doing its thing, especially as East Frisia's army being exiled in Gelre gave me a free opportunity to take them out of the war first. Once I noticed it I knew I'd screwed up, but I wasn't expecting to be shafted quite that badly.

And if you accidentally fall under a PU. Still hesitant to get into a new game atm because I've had 5-6 since the expansion release that I've had to scrap already due to bugs.

simply wasn't paying attention

Its always the case. Several times I've vassalised some OPM having not realised some juggernaut like France has declared war on them after me. Not paying attention in EUIV is a quick way to get fucked.

Almost 2000 hours, no bug ever ruined my game tbh. I've worked my way around the few bugs that I've encountered. Guess I'm just lucky. :D

For some of the bugs - like the reformation bug from expansion release, its more a matter of perspective. I.e. I tend to do RP/narrative runs, and something like the reformation failing is really screwy. Of course if you're doing a European based WC/Achievement hunt, its a blessing not to have to deal with the reformation mechanics.

Thats understandable. I never RP at all, I usually just aim for one or more achievements and just try to get them as quick as possible. I guess the only way for a bug to actually ruin my game would be that it prevents getting one of achievements I want,

In general I strongly dislike using bugs for your advantage in Achievements run, it shows that you would need them to succeed.

I don't actually Achievement run so I don't really have an opinion on how they're obtained. The only ones I have are those you just generally pick up.

Most bugs do usually have a work around though - unlawful territory? Just don't play HRE. See, problem for me is the knock on effect it has with the AI in the area and find it ruins the "feel" of a run. The problems of left minded people, eh?

Thanks, I'm only playing since 1.22 so experienced players' opinion on releases is really interesting!

Still, plenty of other countries to play
I'm aware of this, but choosing a different country from the one you wanted to choose it could be kinda "meh"

By the way, I just started a Sweden run no matter the "independence bug", I broke free without any help and now I can play as usual.. despite this (I know it could sounds weird) I still have that bad sensation of not taking full advantage of the game features (and it's Sweden, a run with Holland would have been impossible), but maybe it's just me and my "quest for perfection" ..Now I hope not to fall under a PU, prayn for fertile dudes :D

Oh I know, I know. I'm the same. Just doing a Sweden run now as well thanks to another thread, managed to break free alone. Glad you found the mojo to carry on! Perhaps if you see any small nations desperate to rebel but can't get support because of the bug, well, they should still take your support.

I think it was version 1.18.
Custom nation.
Formed Russia.
Bug decores all my provinces.
300+% overextention.
1500+admin required to core all the provinces in my nation, which had already been cored, so there's no possibility to even recore my nation if I'd wanted to.
Game over.

a run with Holland would have been impossible
It's not impossible, but it does require luck. The two times I broke free from Burgundy, it was either because Austria+Bohemia liberated us or Milan of all people got the inheritance, allowing me to very easily attack them without any worries once they left the HRE and I got enough favors with various major powers.
