Maybe an alliance with Poland could be possible. I'll need to keep the Black Sea to myself, however, so you'll have to respect that. And the eastern nations Astrakhan and the Golden Horde are naturally mine. But I'll help you conquer Hungary and western Turkey, for instance.

In all seriousness, though. :)
Italy can be a bulwark of Catholicism and free trade, if left to the Italians...friends of Venice and Genoa will be rewarded with access to our COTs, our enemies will be shut out. The combined strength of our navies and the skill of our admirals will make the mediterranean a rather harrowing place for our enemies, and a safe haven for our friends.

We have no designs on dominating the continent...that is left for the dominions that span the vast European plain. We only want what it ours, and we will pursue that which is ours by any means necessary, though we prefer peace.

An Italy under republican rule, brisk and free European trade, and the preservation and advancement of the One True Faith are our goals. Whoever wishes to help us is our friend.

-Excellent Lord, by the Grace of God, Doge of Venice, Duke of Dalmatia and Croatia, the Most Serene Prince Giuseppe Mariani, anno 1492.

(oh what fun we're gonna have if we pull this multi-player thing off, eh, guys?)

Great fun indeed, but we are already playing but it's only virtual.

Most Serene Prince Giuseppe Mariani, Great admiral Doria,

I firmly support your bid for Italy and assure you that i have no claim as for now in the Peninsula. And when i mean support, it include also military matters, excluding however, for now, any 'direct' conflict with my French and Austrian friends. I wish great prosperity to your association and look forward to open trade lines between us.

On the other hand, dear Doge Mariani, as you have no claim outside Italy, i think we will be able to address the problem of your possessions in the Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean Sea, which i regard as to close to my domain to be secure for me.
I hope we will be able to settle this without any unnecessary bloodsheds.

Kind regards, The Mighty Sultan

I, too, must pledge my support to the Doge. Together we can remove the filthy Turks from the Balkans, and the Crimean fleet will be happy to patrol the Strait of Marmara in search of Turkish pirates who aim to prey on the Venetian trade fleets.

my comments to other countries.

France- an offer of a royal marriage and of a military alliance will be gladly accepted.
you will have our full support on the Calais matter.

Austria- I am looking forward to a further cooperation between our two nations.
you will have our full support if you wish to unite the HRE under the Austrian rule.

Turkey- an alliance between our two nations is essential for survival of both Poland and Turkey. North Africa will be yours. further incursions into Europe will not be tolerated. this does not apply to Spain. you can take which ever Spanish provinces you desire.

Portugal- I would love to have you in my glorious alliance. stick with me, and Spain along with it's colonies will be yours.

Prussia- I am glad to see that you are still my loyal vassal and ally. continue being loyal and Finland will be yours.

Venice- your wealth and power is appealing to us. if you stay loyal to us, then the COT's of other Italian states will be yours.

Spain- your insolence will not go unpunished.

England- Calais cannot remaine in your possesion. I know it's very valuable to you. but would you be interested in Spain and it's colonies?

Sweden- I've got one word for you: Partition.

I have no claim to the lands around the Caspian sea. As far as I'm concerned, you can have'em.

unprovoked agression against Turkey will not be tolerated. If that shall occur, I will respond with limitless military force.

Dear Hetman, if you plan to expand southwards, you will surely come into conflict with the Turks sooner or later. But perhaps the Russians are a more immediate common enemy for us. Do you have any plans for Moldavia and Wallachia, BTW?

(oh what fun we're gonna have if we pull this multi-player thing off, eh, guys?)

From 'The Prince' (Machiavelli, of course):

'This opportunity, therefore, ought not to be allowed to pass for letting Italy at last see her liberator appear. Nor can one express the love with which he would be received in all those provinces which have suffered so much from these foreign scourings, with what thirst for revenge, with what stubborn faith, with what devotion, with what tears. What door would be closed to him? Who would refuse obedience to him? What envy would hinder him? What Italian would refuse him homage? To all of us this barbarous dominion stinks. Let, therefore, your illustrious house take up this charge with that courage and hope with which all just enterprises are undertaken, so that under its standard our native country may be ennobled, and under its auspices may be verified that saying of Petrarch:

Virtu contro al Furore
(Valor against fell wrath)
Prendera l'arme, e fia il combatter corto
(Will take up arms; and be the combat quickly sped!)
Che l'antico valore
(For, sure, the ancient worth,)
Negli italici cuor non e ancor morto.
(That in Italians stirs the heart, is not yet dead.)'

I will hold no claim to Italy. as far as I'm concerned, you can have it.

I can see our possible alliance has its obstacles, Hetman. However, if the Turkish ruler will agree to leaving the Crimeans to themselves, and not protest at the natural expansion of Crimea, we skall not have any quarrels.

Russians must be crushed.
as for Moldavia and Wallachia, they are rightfully mine. If I were you, I would turn eastward towards Georgia.

you won't have a monopoly on the black sea because at the beginning of the scenario one of my provinces has a tiny shore line by the black sea. and I will not give up that province.

I did not ask about the Rumenian nations because of my own desire for them, but because I believe they are under Turkish diplomatic control at the start of the game. They are in the BG, at least. I'll go east and north. I guess much of my diplomacy will concern the African minors, however, as a safeguard against Turskish expansionism.
Anyway, I still see Venice as a potential ally for defensive purposes.

Crimea is rather weak, no marine, no hope other than to be crushed by either Russia, Poland,Persia or Turkey. Might i suggest you another country: The Moghol Empire, Bavaria or Denmark maybe.
---------------------------------------------

As the Ottoman ruler, i have to say only this: Crimea will be an obedient ally of Turkey or will be crushed. If you submit we will find some ways to reward your fidelity maybe by associating you with Poland to wage war to Russia, then, if you are succesfull you could find your way trough Siberia; otherwise...
And as for Astrakan, the Black sea and Caspian sea territories, The Shah and i will need to retain their control as to guard the northern approach from Russia if it become a threat.

Anyway, I don't think any nation will be too weak if played somewhat cleverly by a human player. I guess that if it is so easy to hack the game as to allow any nation to be playable, it must be possible for a country like Crimea to build a navy. An colonies, I hope.
