My point to this discussion is people are ready to assume it is alien artifacts much easier than misunderstood natural phenomenon. I was pointing out that logical fallacies work both ways.

Yes, it could very well be alien artifacts...that would be fun.....

It is probably natural phenomenon that we don't fully understand. When it is pointed out that natural phenomenon is more likely a cause people give pushback about logical fallicies and when an argument against aliens is provided there is always some hypothetical explanation......

Of course hypothetical explanations as to it being natural seemed to be dismissed as a logical fallacy.

I agree with you. I'm just saying the fact that SETI hasn't found anything when observing KIC 84.... doesn't really mean much. There are lots of very good reasons, that even if a technologically advanced civ were there that we would never be able to hear them with the means we are currently using.

Edit: In fact, I started the whole thing off saying it almost certainly isn't teched up aliens. But again, doesn't mean that's what we have to find in game. Maybe it's a weapons test from aliens from another system altogether! (and edited to clean up a sloppy word mess.)

of course SETI's lack of evidence doesn't prove or disprove anything, just like our not understanding the dimming of the star doesn't prove or disprove anything as well. One can't invoke logical fallacy only when it suits an argument and ignore it when it doesn't.

lol... again agree with you. We're circling around different sides of the same point. Again, I'll point out that I started out saying whatever is going on it almost certainly isn't aliens... at least in the real world.

For game speculation purposes I'll stick with alien weapons tests. "Tabby's Star" is basically White Sands Test Range for Kzinti-like warrior cats. Making the system more aptly nicknamed then we could ever guess...

It is truly an interesting discovery, however, we can do nothing but speculate until some more powerful telescopes are launched.
JWST will be fully operational early 2019 and the even bigger High Definition Space Telescope is in the early stages of planning for a 2030 launch. These might shed some light on what is going on with that star.

as far as game purposes go it is azathoth sucking the life out of a star.....but that is just me.
