So, I'm about to click the westernization button as soon as I finish coring the new territory I liberated from Portugal along the Ivory Coast.

I apparently forgot to upload the diplomatic screenshot, so... Xi, Miao, Malacca, and Mewar are my vassals. Spain is my ally (mostly because I keep getting +dip missions for it). That could be useful in my next Portuguese war as they seem to be dead set on attacking each other.

The annexation of Xi will finish up in the next couple of years - I'm considering delaying westernizing until then, but the need to not have over-extension to start means I don't want to delay much. I have plenty of admin and military points, but not nearly enough dip. Will probably refocus.

Once my money situation resolved it started to get easier - crushed my way up the African coast with one army and picked at China and India with a mostly mercenary force in order to finally start to grow manpower. This last year I finally (for the first time) had more manpower stored up then I started with.

It's a much later westernization then I'd counted on, but with Portugal and Spain fighting I had to go to them. Shrug. Probably good for me longterm. Exploring the coast of California now and then maybe they'll let me explore the actual land in Brazil; hope to get a second colonial nation set up soon.

Question - can I move my trade capital to the Ivory coast for the future planned on Treasure Fleets or do I need to break into North Africa/Europe? I don't think they'll make it to SE Asia somehow.

I think you're looking fine on progress.

The annexation of Xi will finish up in the next couple of years - I'm considering delaying westernizing until then, but the need to not have over-extension to start means I don't want to delay much. I have plenty of admin and military points, but not nearly enough dip. Will probably refocus.
If it were me, I'd probably do it during the annexation. I just started one while I had two annexations going on, but I am a bit crazy. As long as I don't take the -30 legitimacy events and don't take stab hits I can't buy back (I like to westernize at +1), if it takes a bit longer to westernize it usually turns out fine.

Question - can I move my trade capital to the Ivory coast for the future planned on Treasure Fleets or do I need to break into North Africa/Europe? I don't think they'll make it to SE Asia somehow.
You can get treasure fleets as long as it's upstream. Since Brazil feeds into Ivory Coast and Amazonas and all trade zones to the south feed into Brazil you can get treasure fleets from those. You can't get them from Lima or anyone to the North.

One other thing to keep in mind is that Ivory Coast is rather competitive, so for collecting trade you might want someone collecting that delicious Spice Island trade before it gets there... or just go kill Europe. That's always a fun way to approach it. :)

Well, I finished westernizing in 1603 and in the middle of a war with Portugal. Mostly I attacked Portugal and they had one little territory in between my Ivory Coast holdings through a 1 province Holland vassal (shrug) and because I thought I'd have a shot at Roma (allied) - but it was too far to core (even if I took some of Portugal's North Africa holdings for some reason) and too expensive to turn the Papal States into a vassal. So... I took a lot of colonies and some land in Iberia.

PFEpcXa.jpg

During westernization I was mostly careful about expansion - just one big bite out of south India and some minor African and South American grabs. Lan Brazil is my second colonial state. I'm a bit behind in tech but nothing too concerning. I'll convert the Caribbean holdings before I core them so my colonial is Hindu there.

Next up - some more reverse colonialism as I move to take out Spain and Britain. I mean, why not. Primitives.

Overall, I expect to meet all of the goals listed in the opening options - why pick just one! Side note - coring Europe is nicely cheap from off continent. Never experienced that before.

Next thread is up: we're off to Kazan!

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...ther-kazan-community-nation-discovery.882527/

That said, this thread isn't "closed" or anything. If you're still playing your Lan Na game or even want to start up a new one, feel free to let us know how it's going.
What a relief. I'm still at 1780~ and think it's gonna take me at least two weeks(realistically one, I can't seem to sit and play less than 6 hours) to finish this.
I should probably start planning my posts better and taking more screenshots of major events for reference, but whatever, here's what it looks like right now:
9B0D91474E8988D6558D3A92B5413BF6BD463113

Apparently the chinese have so little regard for western intellectual property they bootlegged the glorious nation of Ulm itself(that's Wu btw).
A9BC1B8E214CF068EF44311FB7DF2A0F30A2E42E

Ideas are:
  1. Influence
  2. Aristocratic(those first two I shamelessly copied from someone else's post here. They don't usually fit my playstyle, but I have to say the extra diplo slot and vassal bonuses were wonderful)
  3. Administrative (I may have copied this one too, I usually favour Economic instead. The mercenaries and cheaper tech from this served me really well though)
  4. Quantity (realized I needed some manpower to deal with Chu and Bengal)
  5. Religious (I usually go for Humanist instead, but I wanted to convert that everything after going Hindu. Not sure it was worth it though, I didn't know RU gives no advantages unless you're reformed)
  6. Trade (maybe I should've picked another mil idea instead, but I had way too much tradepower and I felt I could do a lot with it if only I had more merchants to fiddle with)
Majapahit is actually transferring trade power to me, not a vassal. I thought TTP only lasted for the truce duration, but it's been almost 100 years since the war where I forced them into it now?! :S
Malacca makes my territory look pretty ugly but I'm probably not annexing them ever because they have all those silly, scatterd colonies I don't care for.

The war with Brunei is probably a huge mistake. They are fresh from the westernization oven and will probably anhihilate me easily.
Speaking of westernization, I haven't done it yet. I had never played a ROTW campaign far enough for it to be a problem and thought since I was managing to do pretty well with keeping up in tech I shouldn't have to actively go for it. It began to be a concern right after my war with Holland since it remembered me that having western units is a really big advantage, I had to dislodge 20stacks to deal with their 4~7stacks.
So the oportunity to do it just showed up when I was at war with Bengal(not sure why it took so long, I was neighbouring western nations for quite a while before) but I couldn't do it because overextension and now can't do it because war.

I'm really eager to finish this one next weekedn. It's been a really fun campaign and I learnt a lot. Maybe I'll try doing the Kazan let's play on IM to see how much I improved, if at all.

Bonus: my Europe is quite a mess. It was worse around 1720, but the big guys blobbing up cleared a lot of states with 4 provinces scattered all over the place.
483E960F2F53BDC85DBACBFC172D826A9592A287

Yes, that is Canada on Scotland.
Let's have a look at the HRE, shall we? Since Austria is gone, I wonder, who's the emperor? Bavaria? Maybe Prussia? Place your bets ladies and gentlemen!

I finally finished it, my first full campaign too. Took me longer than I expected and I did lots of silly mistakes by the end(and middle, and in the beginning...) but hopefully now this thread can rest in peace.
End screen:
BADD513BA1DA1920F0E28C9D309A75BC6EA26F5E
Not sure who held 2nd biggest Army, probably Ottomans, and 2nd largest navy was England. France was topping both charts easily after absorbing Spain.
I ended up not westernizing. I thought I'd be able to get more done in the last 40 years by putting my points into taking/coring stuff. Couldn't unlock the last two idea groups either, can't say I'd know what to do with them though, probably offensive since I was constantly capping on mil points

This is what it looked like by the end:
0480484ECF6133498F4718803D310006CB2AE501

7DD25A142FBCC330831C318FF6751A9E0C16D19B
Expanded a lot onto Chu in the last few years. It used to be I could only take on them with Shun and Wu's help, and that's not counting their allies. But after forcing them to annul with everybody on another war they simply isolated themselves and never really got alliances/RMs with anyone else. That and the fact they somehow fell behind pretty badly in mil tech made them an easy target.
Also grabbed some goodies from Brunei and Bengal, mostly because I wanted those trade centers and estuaries.

This thing is Europe btw:
FF054D52F3CD2332D3C6ECBF87E99CCB1E46DADE

This was a really nice campaign. Can't wait to start a Kazan one next week too.
