Is there an upcoming dlc announced already that will improve horde mechanics? Could someone link it to me?

Thanks

Next dev diary (tomorrow) there will be something about Steppe Hordes with the next expansion. Expansion is not yet announced.

This play through has been very straight forward. Nogai and Golden Horde didn't have any allies so the early wars were easy, then I was able to twice jump on Muscovy whilst they were losing wars, Poland collapsed and Scandinavia are friendly. The Ottomans are allies buthave never joined any of my wars. The last time I checked their army was at 120k with Spain next on 80k. First time I've seen Poland collapse quite so badly.

Spain rivalled me because clearly we have lots of overlapping interests...

I thank you for this. All the border gore I was seeing was startin to make me cry, but you carved out a nice realm as a steppe lord. Thank you for this.

Also the AI rivals based on tech and strength/point gain. If you have high point gain and the same tech group then anybody in europe around your strength will likely rival you.

I finally westernized in January 1554. "The people resist westernization", "The people resist westernization", "The people resist westernization", bah! I was actually locked out of reforming my government for a while because an inept 2/1/1 woman was in the saddle. And she wasn't even allowed to lead troops...
eu4_7.jpg

Terrible.

eu4_9.jpg

In the 1520s and 1530s, I finally got an opportunity to beat up Muscovy, after they'd slightly lost a battle against Sweden and out-of-PLC-Lithuania. This war was fought with a significant numerical disadvantage against Muscovy and Genoa, but the shock bonus in my own lands, and the fact that Muscovy's manpower was depleted and they were already at 5 loans, and apparently unwilling to go further into debt, let me finally win the war decisively after about 10 years of fighting. I decided to mostly take provinces in the Kazan node, which almost doubled my trade income from 6.x to 12.y

eu4_10.jpg

Kazan after westernizing. As you can see, the Ottomans are doing quite well, being the largest nation now after Ming collapsed during my westernization. My plans now are to exploit the disarray in China to secure more profitable trade. I can core at -50% cost and time, due to having finished administrative and the Kazani ideas, so it should be possible to quickly expand there, although I shudder to think of the dip point cost. I am finally at current military tech, while lagging behind about 1 level for most of the game.

This game was a little unusual in that I was never able to get a good enough opportunity to attack either Muscovy, or Lithuania. The former was at peace for an incredibly long amount of time, while the latter has strong allies in Sweden and Poland. While I might be able to win it if the Ottos support me, it's pretty definitely not worth it. So, western expansion stymied, I was starved for cash and manpower. I tried to compensate a little by going south and east, but apart from a little trade income, colonies provide very little of use, even though I have the largest base development even after not expanding for 25 years. The Ottos will provide a nice mid-game challenge once either of us decides to drop the alliance (which, by the way, locked me out of waging war on Crimea for a long time, and now they fell prey to Lithuania).

Hopefully it doesn't all fall over now. I'm at -3 stability after my previous ruler died leading an army. Luckily though I'm also at peace and have a truce with GH, Uzbek, Nogai and Timurids.

My first war with Muscovy went reasonably well. Unfortunately despite having Timurids as an ally they wouldn't join, though that was entirely my fault due to calling them in unnecessarily against Nogai. The plan was (having given them a province to get to me) that I'd use them to beat up of the Muscovites while they were beating up on Novgorod. Poor planning on my part. I did get away with two Permian provinces - Novgorod is definitely a welcome distraction, so use it, especially since they basically go for it day 1 AFAIK.

Currently have Khiva, Afghanistan and Crimea as allies.

Shame this Kazan community nation thing isn't after next patch. Hordes will be glorious then!

It was mentioned in the OP why this is. It's a good idea honestly. I expect to be absolutely crushed by TMIT this time and not have the largest (or one of the largest, didn't look) empires this time, Kazan is one of his babies.

The goals will be...

1. For the (Merchant) Republic!

Going Trade/Economic as my first two ideas to become a merchant republic. Economic can be used to reform anyways. This will require a triple reform :D.

2. Unify Islam
I was thinking you might go with something like Hejaz, Oman or even something that's released like Iraq but I think the latter would scare too many people. Still. Unify Islam is definitely a goal.

3. Become a trade powerhouse.
I've never touched trade. Exploration borderline makes it redundant but if I find good reason to keep it after I've reformed, I very well might. Either way, trade powerhouse. Not sure how to go about it.

Wat, this is my first time touching Kazan since like 1.6 lol. I'm still doing okay though, should at least get all of Asia other than Indonesia an a good chunk of Africa etc. I wanted Europe but giant Bohemia and its HCC took the wind clean out of my sails for that.

Good luck going republic. You'll need it, since you have a gold mine and you can't become a merchant republic unless 40% income is trade (very stupid/vexing restriction given the already enormous opportunity cost of switching).

Oh crapppp... I forgot about that restriction! Though if I'm not mistaken it's on the Asia border province, so giving that up to Siber for a while won't be such a big deal... Move trade center to Novgorod, might be able to pull it off. I know I'm jumping through hoops as is but...

Edit: Actually upon looking it won't be that hard. Already 38% of my income is trade and the province in question is Asia, so if I want 'cheaper still' cores, I may want to give it over to Siber anyway since Kazakh is also my vassal and well... mistakes were made :D.

I just have distinct memory of you playing a lot of Kazan. That multiplayer game sticks out in my head. All these European super powers and all these other really strong choices, nope you have to go and choose Kazan... lol.

So, i have a question. When would be the best time to flip to Shia with Kazan? Right at game start (got the muslim dlc), to quickly start converting the sunni land, or wait for the first idea (religious unity)?

I was looking at Kazan's ideas and they seem like a strong candidate to going unreformed all game by stacking morale and numbers to swarm the enemy.

The game is 11 years in, and i did what i planned: gangbanged Nogai together with the other hordes, and piled on the Muscovy together with my Uzbek allies while it was occupied with Novgorod and at 0 manpower. A month after i declared, Golden horde sensed some easy provinces and joined on the fun. However, we all know that Mother Russia's reserves are endless, and it still fielded 28k troops even after i stackwiped two 8k-stacks (the Great Khan Ulugh turned out to be a decent 2-2-4 general), and, while it lost a total of 3 provinces and a vassal (i vassalized Perm myself), it still wrecked the Goldens. About to break the alliance with the Uzbek and pile on them together with Timmies, as they hate each other's guts. So far so good!

Around 100 years into the game:

AMNaaPY.jpg

gDSJyh3.jpg

20PB6MZ.jpg

All the green countries in the diplomatic screen are my vassals. As I played a Golden Horde -> Sunni Russia game not too long ago, I thought why not do Orthodox Kazan this time. I reformed, converted and westernized all around 1500-1520. The other reason is how powerful PUs are, I never really used them before my last game as Denmark and I wanted to have this opportunity in my new game as well.

I almost got my dynasty on the Swedish throne as they first had no heir and then an old ruler/old heir combination... but somehow they managed to escape. Now I'm fighting them because they are allied with Poland-Lithuania. I decided not to play that aggressively and didn't make any efforts to conquer down into Persia or south of the Caucasus, instead focusing on historical Russian borders (doesn't mean I'll necessarily stick to this).

As you can see in the religious screen I refused to convert any single province, as I still don't have the +3 heathen tolerance from Humanist this is technically suboptimal play but nothing too bad. I frequently got uprisings but I could deal with them. Also, Moscow of all places has been converted to Protestant by event.

I just attacked Poland-Lithuania because they are down on manpower and the tooltip said Sweden and France (defender of the faith) wouldn't join... it turned out Sweden did join but as they are weakened as well it shouldn't be too much of a problem. I'm going to correct my western borders

Hopefully it doesn't all fall over now. I'm at -3 stability after my previous ruler died leading an army. Luckily though I'm also at peace and have a truce with GH, Uzbek, Nogai and Timurids.

How did you get to -3 stability? Usually before reforming or westernising I make sure that I've saved up enough admin points so that I can instantly return to 0 stability. When westernising in this game I ended up hiring a level 3 unrest advisor so only got a couple of event driven rebellions.

Weirdly the most difficult war I've had in my play through is against Kochin as Ava unexpectedly sent a stack of 22k troops with a godly leader and the distances between provinces make reinforcements a pain.

Also because Spain rivalled me it meant that when the Netherlands appeared I was given an opportunity to support them. Unfortunately I had to reject the event as my navy was non existant so there was no way of me sending any troops to help.

The next step of estabilishing the Kazani hegemony! After the Great Khan Ulugh finished stomping the Uzbeks, making 2 brand-new vassal blobs (Kazakh and Sibir), Muscovy got embroiled in a civil war, plagued by swarming rebellions here and there, greatly weakening the country. And so, commenced the 2nd Kazani conquest of the Muscovian lands... During which the great khan Ulugh died on the battlefield with a 13-year old heir...Instantly netting me a 4-5-5 badass, whp proceeded to crush the smaller Nuscovian stacks underhoof, until we had ebough warscore to get the next few provinces and quickly peace out, before we had a chance to engage the main Russian stacks...again. The basic idea in this game was the same as any other horde game - crush the weaker, have one large ally who can deter the attackers, attack the large'uns at every sign of weakness they show. And no overseas coring as it is really lame imo.

I was really looking forward to joining you guys on this one, but so far my six starts have seen Muscovy declare within the first three months each time, and three times Nogai also join in.

:(
Ally Timmy on day 1, problem solved (temporarily, at least). I was never attacked by Muscovy before Timmies were rebel-raped, and I also restarted the game a couple times after a year or two to figure out the best opening.

I'm jealous people got Uzbek as friendly. They always rivaled me on my starts. This would have made my life so much easier.

In none of my games was I able to ally them. Best I could get was Crimea after a few months improving relations. Perhaps because I'm playing Ironman?

However I did decide to give it one more shot, and I got really lucky.

I was doing the improve relations mission with Uzbek, while also improving with Timmy.
Nogai declared war, and we had lots of siege dancing, while I also attacked them on home soil.
Golden Horde then declared on Nogai, so once Nogai went off to fight GH I sieged as much as possible.
GH took some provinces, and I then went and sieged the remaining provinces.
Took enough to get me close to Timmys.
Uzbek sent an ally request, and I was able to RM Timmy who then offered alliance also.

GH is also allied with Uzbek, so my route now looks to be Muscovy.

In my game Uzbek were allied to Golden Horde but fell apart to rebels so didn't honour the alliance. If its on hard rather than normal then that would most likely explain why you couldn't immediately ally the Timurids.

Accidentally went above 100% over extension. Wasn't fun...
