I am not asking for a Coat of Arms designer. I just want us to be able to chose from the existing coat of arms instead of clicking trough randomize over and over again in character designer. Who even thought that was a good idea?

Paradox has been pretty clear that a CoA designer is coming, but wasn't going to be ready as quickly as the ruler designer. So I'm pretty sure nobody thought it was a good idea, but it was either this or not getting the ruler designer until 1.2 or 1.3.

I would think the devs probably thought it was an acceptable placeholder and better than a limited set of pre-made coat of arms or a crappy designer. Its a placeholder as far as I understand and I'm kind of cool with that.

Except that random coat of arms aren’t randomly created. There’s a set number of pre designed ones that you go trough as you click randomize. Why couldn’t we get a drop down menu where we can choose one akin to how you can chose hair or clothes for a character until they make a CoA designer?

I hope this goes for my A.I. courtiers who I turn into nobles. A bit silly when I give when of my Knights who is brave, deceitful, and cynical some lands and he spawns with the house motto of "Piety over Valor". I mean if send his foes to meet their gods is pious, I guess...

Seriously. In a game based around your Dynasty and the management of said Dynasty, your CoA is extremely important. It's literally the symbol of your lineage... I have spent up to 20 straight minutes trying to find something even remotely suitable. More often than not I have to just go with something "good enough" so I am not wasting my life. I have never really been 100% satisfied with any CoA for a custom character, and it's frustrating.

It's not a list of pre-made designs. Each time you click, it generates a random number which is then used to generate a new random CoA.

Then why do I see them repeating designs? I see the Plantagenet 3 golden lions on red field, the Komnenos or German imperial eagle on yellow, the Breton coat of arms etc all reliably repeat. I’ve spent close to two hours going trough randomize button and I’m yet to see some weird randomized design.

I would love for this to be made available when making a new house, and in the character designer so that we can choose the new portion of the arms - or even choose to have an entirely new shield for our branch rather than a "random" seeming quarter.

It would also, in the same vein be nice to be able to choose up to four of our top level titles and use those as our territorial arms (so, for example) quarter England, France, Scotland, and Navarre, and *maybe* even place a single coat set of dynastic arms over the territorial one. (Heart shields for the scandinavians???)

Possibly because the seeds have limited options?
They seem to have reduced the amount of weird that's on offer by making it so the process is much more controlled and coherent.

Then it's working as designed ;) The purpose of the random system isn't to create weird randomized designs, but to generate authentic coats of arms that wouldn't look out of place in a medieval armorial.

So could that be codified into permanent designs, something akin to *click random* -> *save design* and then allow us to use a simple <- back and next -> button? Or scan the DLC designs from CK2 and upload them there in CK3 form as chosable?

I would guess that something like that is possible, but as with everything it still costs time that could be used on more critical things.

Or scan the DLC designs from CK2 and upload them there in CK3 form as chosable?

CK2 used an entirely different system so it would be a huge task to create backwards compatability with it. Even if it was easy, they don't meet the quality bar that we set for CK3 by any metric (visuals, authenticity, weighted triggers), so we wouldn't want to.

It's not a list of pre-made designs. Each time you click, it generates a random number which is then used to generate a new random CoA.

If it uses a number to generate a CoA, then why not let us input our own string value? That way, if people found a seed number that generates a CoA they like, they could "save" it, use it in new games, and even trade/share it online.

I'm not really going to be satisfied until we're able to customize our own CoA directly (ideally, with the ability to import our own custom image assets - modding custom heraldric designs into CK2 was needlessly cumbersome); in the meantime, however, giving us the option to manually input the number used to generate the CoA would be an immense help!

In a game all about dynasty management the ability to chose your own COA and the ability of it to look good is crucial. I’d put CoA at the highest priority since 1. It’s minimum effort and 2. High RP value.

Ideally we’d chose a place to play, say England or France, the get an option to create our own CoA, to assume a county/duchy/kingdom CoA for our own or be given an option of historical CoA from the region.
