An update, concerning the vote. It's tied on 8-8 now, and like I previously said, if the two options are still neck and neck by the 25th, I'll break the damn thing myself :p Also, I apologise for being unable to reply to every comment last time round, I've been very busy with real-life stuff lately (another goddamn exam around the corner.)

That Shia Islam part, does that mean you've mean you've decided to convert? I like how the Capets have made a resurgence. I think that the power of Christendom is great and to be feared.

Nope, just a coincidence. A few provinces flipped to both Shia and Yazidi, I think via event, though I'm not sure.

Kurdistan looks to be where Islam makes a stand against a strengthening Christian Europe - or is broken by it.

Either result of the vote could determine the outcome. A Shia conversion would surely cause civil strife of some level, while assassinated leaders would do similar.

The Abbasid are like cockroaches in this world, refusing to just lay down and die. At least they don't pose much of a threat to you.

The Empire of Carpathia is an interesting consequence of defeating the Byzantine Empire so many times. Given your string of successes so far though, I imagine they won't be a problem.

Sad to see Germanic faded away. A shame, now there is less potential religious tension down the road of the campaign.

As for the vote tie, can I just simplify things and change my vote to A?

Yep, I reckon the next Crusade to be called will probably be for Jerusalem, and if Kurdistan is engulfed by civil strife or already in a war with outside forces, who knows what could happen? The next century will be interesting, to say the least.

Completely agree, the Carpathians by themselves don't really pose much of a threat. The bigger danger, though, is if they decide to pounce on me or my allies when I'm already distracted, I probably won't be able to win a war against numerically superior forces on two fronts. Heck, I probably couldn't win a war against the Mongol hordes by themselves.

As for switching options, yes! That's fine. With that, the vote changes to 9-7, pretty much guaranteeing that Option A, converting to Shia Islam, wins. It'll be confirmed with the release of the next chapter.

With all these major powers popping up across Europe, it's starting to look like Medieval: Total War.

Also, interesting with the low class noble house ruling England. I've never seen that happen before in-game.

Interesting to see the Capet dynasty ruling France and the Bosonids ruling Burgundy. Catholicism is in a far better position than it was a century ago, so a crusade towards Jerusalem does not seem unlikely.

The struggle between Carpathia and Byzantium, has not created the best of borders, and unless marriage or a common foe unites the two, they will probably continue their wars.

Yep, about a century ago, the Umayyads had half of France and all of Spain, Europe was infighting as they attempted to rid themselves of the Waldensian King, and the Orthodox Carpathians and Byzantines expanded further into Hungary and Italy. Now, though, it's taken a complete 360. It'll be interesting to see how much longer they can keep this up.

Interesting to see Buddhism so dominant on the steppes. I'm hoping against hope that we'll see it spread further west (Buddhist Russia, maybe?), but I imagine that'll be a bit of a long shot.

As mentioned elsewhere, Europe looks like it's crystallizing into a few major power blocs. Interesting to see a Muslim enclave still holding out in Galicia; it's almost like a perfect mirror of the pre-Reconquista state, minus Aragon.

Finally, best of luck on your exams (and my sympathies)!

Maybe "low class" is a poor way to put it. Whenever someone's of the house "of x", that's just CK2's default house for anyone of slightly higher than common birth, or if they need a house attached to themselves (like a not-legitimized bastard). It's basically like the game's way of saying "Bob from New York." Either way, it's not a REAL noble house.

I forget which of A and B is which, and vote to stick with Sunni.

Not a long-time lurker at all, started reading this AAR two days ago and have caught up just now. Nice read, you write and rule well. Also I'm new to CKII,currently playing my first game. Vanilla, as Ireland (surprise!), still very much learning the ropes.

Exactly that. The earlier you can construct the income-boosting buildings, the longer you'll end up profiting from them, and it makes it easier to upgrade them as you unlock technology. Also, if you own every county in your capital duchy, I'm pretty sure that gives you a substantial boost as well, so it's something to consider.

Interesting to see Buddhism so dominant on the steppes. I'm hoping against hope that we'll see it spread further west (Buddhist Russia, maybe?), but I imagine that'll be a bit of a long shot.

That'd be a very cool alt-history scenario, a Buddhist Russia. It would lend more of an Asian character to it too, perhaps leading to it focusing on Central Asia/China much more than they did in our timeline. Also, thanks for the luck, I'm gonna need it :p

That's pretty cool, I'd never considered it like that before. For much of European history, most royal dynasties didn't really have a family name, not up until the late 1700s, at least. They used to be referred to as 'of England' or 'of Spain', rather than the 'Capets' or the 'Habsburgs', so I'd always assumed dynasties in-game named 'of x' was simply sticking to history. Cool to finally know, though :D

Really? I never knew that. Can you give me a link, I would be interested in reading more about it.

I'm not too sure how many online sources there are, I mostly get that kinda info from books, but I did manage find a couple useful links, they explain it pretty well: click here and here.

Hey there, welcome to the AAR! Thanks for reading, I'm happy to help if you're interested in anything.
Hm, I am gradually learning, and google-fu & Reddit is serving me well. So far I started in vanilla Mumu, played about 150 years, united Ireland (including using marriage to get one pesky province back from England), did well in wars and acquired 1 Scottish, 2 Welsh, 3 English counties by choosing the right successor.

Today I upgraded and now have all expansions, so yes, you can certainly help with choosing the stage for my next game:
Which expansions should I enable?
Which options should I select/deselect?
What are good places to start? And when?

....given that the things I'm currently struggling to learn is breeding, inheritance management (I can pick the successor in Elective Monarchy 2 times out of 3) and the art of marriying people for claims and consolidating. And I think I better stay Catholic for this next game too.

And of course it is improper to hijack your thread and I promise not to do it again. Will also ask these questions on /r/crusaderkings (Reddit).

Play with all the expansions, I guess. Disable Conclave if it seems a bit too difficult, and keep Sunset Invasion off, that shit will mess you up. I'm not sure about Game Rules, I haven't had the chance to play around with them yet, so I can't help you there. As for good starts, anything fairly small and isolated is fine, maybe England. If you want something different, try one of the Spanish counts in the 1066 start and finish the Reconquista. I'm at work right now, so I can write a really detailed answer at the moment, but you can probably get better answers on the CK2 subreddit, they're a helpful bunch.
