I thought you were basing the workers votes around issues? You could discard the percentage voting jingoism and go by how the remaining issues divvy up.
OOC: I have to agree with this. But put some Jingo in there too, not wipe it out completely. There are people who still want war. It's not our fault if they are stupid errmmm... I mean, have a low CON. My two Socialist pennies.

Yes, there are still people who want war -- any POPs that support the Marxists, German Socialists or Centralists.

Any Pacificist/Anti-Mil POP should go Anarchist.

The problem is that the game engine bases the amount of Jingoism off the amount of unclaimed cores. So our country which has more unclaimed cores then owned territories will be overwhelmingly jingoistic, to the point where it will be the only issue that matters. Which is silly. Even in extremely jingoistic states like Nazi Germany, there were other issues that mattered.

I have some fundamental philosophical disagreements with the Collective Anarchist party, but since they are the only party pushing press reform I will cast my ballot for the Collective Anarchists.

...please don't high five me, offer me a pat on the back or congratulate me in any way for "seeing the light". I'm still a hawk on foreign policy. However, I think our party could survive a bout of liberalism for a bit and it might do our young republic some good. I would hope the Marxists would remind them, however, that our nation still has to march forward. That means, at a bare minimum, not reversing social reform.

I'm also going with Option 2.

Polls are now closed

In total 53 votes were polled. This is, sadly, the worst result yet. It is 5 down on the last vote and 1 down on the first. Still it meets my target of 50-60 votes so I'm pleased with the turnout. :)

In the leadership election:

Marxists - 26 (+1)

Anarchists - 21 (+3)

Socialists - 4 (-6)

Centralists - 2 (+2)

Karl Marx remains chairman for another 5 years. This is a vot for social progress, for expansion of the Republic but also for delaying the inevitable showdown between the competing factions of the party.

Whilst the Marxists have won the Anarchists have actually had a good amount of success, increasing their vote by 3 for the second election running. If the Marxists had not got those two votes from people jumping ship from the Centralists they would have actually had less votes this time round.

The losers are of course the German Socialists who plummeted from 10 votes to 4. In the first election they managed 20 votes, now in the third they get just 4. Moderation is dead.

In the Referendum the results are as follows:

Option 5 - 22

Option 2 - 14

Option 4 - 10

Option 1 - 4

Option 3 - 3

So Workers' Vote wins!

Well, at least the victory of the Workers' Vote will split the Marxist/German Socialist cliques. The next election will be the Anarchists'!

How so? The Marxists get 37% of the worker's vote, while the Anarchists only get around 18%. The worker's vote increases the power of the Marxists, because well, let's face it, the Anarchists aren't all that popular among the workers. It seems Anarchy is an idealistic luxury of the elite within the party.

Election of 1860

As the United Socialist People’s Republic celebrated its tenth anniversary the country looked in good shape. The lives of the proletariat had visibly improved, the economy had grown at unheard of rates during the capitalist era whilst Socialism had been brought to millions more people. However the People’s Party itself was growing unstable making the 1860 election a potentially explosive one.

Electionof1860.jpg

The election saw a vote for a continuation of the current regime as Karl Marx retained his position as Chairman of the People’s Party and the head of the Republic. This electoral victory promised further expansion, social reforms and economic growth but failed to solve the most important issue that was plaguing the party – the Anarchist problem. Essentially the radical wing of the Anarchists was becoming increasingly opposed to the ever increasing size of the state whilst this ever more powerful and violent aggravation was provoking the emergence of a radical wing from the Marxist and Socialist factions.

The Marxists secured the largest share of the vote ever achieved in a VSVR election with 49.1% of the vote (tantalisingly close to an absolute majority) whilst the Anarchists continued to build up ever more support within the Party itself as they achieved an impressive 39.6% of the vote. The real losers were, once again, the German Socialists who continued their ever faster slide into insignificance. In 1850 they had 37% of the vote and won the election, in 1855 they had 17.2% of the vote and came a respectable but distant third now in 1860 they managed just 7.5% of the vote and were actually quite lucky not to fall behind the Blanquists.

Blanqui was of course desperately disappointed that his popularity with both the people and the party had not translated into votes in the election. It seemed that whilst so much of the party was happy to support him when it was good for them very few party members were willing to grant him real power for reform.

Elesewhere the plebicite on voting reform saw the expansion of voting rights from the party to the workers themselves as the Workers' Vote system achieved a wide margin of victory over its closest rivals in the referendum. From 1865 onwards 50% of the votes in Chairmanship elections were to come from the proletarians themselves.

Nether the less the fate of the Republic was now once again in the secure and able hands of Karl Marx. The intellectual titan and brilliant statesman would lead the great Republic through another 5 years.

This is redundant, comrades! This is why we have the People's Party. We represent the people! We know their needs! Why do they need to vote when they have US!?

We only need "Second Preference", comrades!

I do agree about option 2, but this type of argumentation is just a charicature of marxism. The party is open to the people, and open debate and organized votes is superior to the easily-manipulated bourgeoise "democracy". This is not the same thing as treating the masses as unconscious cattle to herd ever which way. That's not worthy thinking for a people's party.

Anarchist comrades! We cannot let that vile Marx and his cronies continue to destroy our chance at paradise! The underground newspaper, the Anarchist Zeal (in German, French, and Dutch editions of course), is being spread to the masses. We need to show the proletariat the way to true liberty and expose the lies of Marx! With the momentum from the Zeal, we need to organize rallies in Brussels, Antwerp, Cologne, and Aachen to show our power and support. We can use the Worker's Vote to our advantage. if we show enough worker's the true way, we will be victorious! Viva Anarchisme!

Any opposition to Marx is ludicrous. He has so far proven a far more capable leader than any other of the time, and thats on his bad days. Anarchists step out of line when they voice against him, and they would see that the VSVR crumbles. Without our inspiring leadership, the vile Bourgeoisie nations that surround us would pounce. We would be decimated. Step back and realize what you might be doing as an Anarchist, what that next bomb might accomplish. Only Marx can protect the proletariat who make up our People's Republic.

An newspaper being published to undermine the government is the last thing our revolution needs. We should allow these newspapers out into the open, where they can be safely dealt with in a peaceful fashion.
