Let the player rename the in-game characters

Fellow Paradoxians,

I think that being able to rename the in-game characters (heirs, advisers, merchants, diplomats, missionaries, etc.) would be a great addition. It would add so much immerse and could help the AAR writers a lot, too. It would be wonderful if we could have this option enabled.

I had 3 Advisors with the same name two of which were the same type, obviously twins. I should have screenshotted it. They should at least put some kind of modifier where the name is in use.

I kind of think that being able to RENAME the characters would be awesome...

That would be awesome, but I doubt it is possible. On the other hand, the change I am suggesting seems easy-to-make and not so difficult...

Why would you forbid the player from naming his rulers/generals/diplomats/whatever? If they want to break immersion - it's their choice. If they want to appease their autism by changing their colonists' and diplomats' names every few decades - let them do so.

well, there should be restrictions at least for the visible names in multiplayer

There are restrictions on renaming provinces in multiplayer, aren't there? If so, the similar ones could apply here.

In terms of immersion, I can, as England, decide to rename my heir as Vanilla Ice, and my king to Cube Ice. The Ice dynasty. That is not immersion.

So I believe that a mod would work better than actually implement it in-game.... Because, as much as I hate it, I will not resist the temptation to start a game as England, rename the dynasty to Ballsucker, and than start as France.

But I give you that for AAR writers, it would add IMMENSELY!

Congratulations, (part of) this suggestion is being added in the oncoming expansion! Though I still hope they will someday allow us to change other characters' names too.
