So yes we're getting Poland and Soviet Union but those are reworks of existing ones... You say you didn't have time, but surely a full time developer should be able to make a decent Finnish focus tree in a month?

There wasn't enough time in NSB, LaR or MtG because Portugal, Mexico, and the Baltics took precedence, do you really think that they have the time for focus trees of countries that actually fought in the war, like Finland or Italy, and alt-hist wank at the same time?

Have they confirmed the question in the title, though? I haven’t seen any PDXCON panel, but from what I’ve seen, it looks like they just confirmed Finland isn’t coming - maybe there could be another tree that we just haven’t thought about

Hell, half the reason people want an Italy rework is to "get more options" aka Pope non aligned meme focus tree. The Italian NF isn´t really bad by itself. And I guess most people who want a Finnish Focus tree want it for the alt history memes too.

It may be maybe they give us a surprise in the sense that they insert some type of other shared trees for the Soviet republics like Ukraine ?
As they said, they didn't have time because a Finnish tree because doing them justice would require new mechanics that aren't in the game yet.
We're all really disappointed with that, but let's at least get our facts straight.

No it takes a lot longer than that for what we aim for these days. With a month you get something like the basegame Poland level.

I’m buying this now tbh (dev time but could extend release date) and I understand that from the devs but i still feel it’s a lost opportunity.
For what I was aware of from the pipeline... defensive war was part of that. Finland was the ideal candidate for that BUT we don’t get it because we have now decided to add “guerilla warfare” to the mix which is something I’ve never heard of being something the devs have wanted doing apart from today.
I wish we gotta shwerpunkt of an expansion. A single punch of an awesome DLC instead of serving them up as piece meal.
The smaller expansion idea that was served in the stream today would be ideal for the Baltic states... Make the main DLC be the punch with Finland, Poland and Soviets. Then let the public decide on if they want the Baltic States with a BFTB DLC.

The Ukrainian case was very close to becoming a reality, so much so that the Soviets took it for the fact that the Germans would convert a state similar to Croatia to the Ukrainians to win a large part of the Ukrainian nationalist population.

I don't mean to be rude in any way and I respect you want to deliver high quality content. But I think you're also pulling yourself into a corner by wanting to out-do yourself by every expansion.
Also I'd argue that more complex doesn't always guarantee more "fun", I'd take Manchuko over Turkey any day!

As one of "those guys" who actually liked the OOB micro from HOI3, I take a perverse satisfaction in making that task hard. Of course, I'm pretty dang sure I'm a "fun" outlier, so take any and all of my opinions with a pound of salt.

I'd argue that the massive Poland overhaul, the much-anticipated tank designer, the new in-depth logistics system, and the still-to-be-shown-but-definitely-going-to-be-awesome USSR rework more than justify the time constraints. As disappointed as I am that Finland will not be included, I will not look this gift horse in the mouth.

If your aim is giant trees for even the most minor of minors whose half of the content are memes, of course you need more time. If you focused on historical Finland, a basegame Poland tree would be enough. You can save the memes for the Scandinavian pack.

Please be respectful. I too was a bit shocked to not see Finland be added, but that doesn’t give me the right to be rude. Podcat himself took the time to write a forum post specifically asking for some more respect to the devs - after all, they are people too.
It’s much better, IMO, to have a good, fleshed out tree that takes a bit longer to design, then to have a half-assed focus tree YOU KNOW will have to be redone because YOU KNOW it isn’t up to the current standards just for the sake of inclusion.
Poland’s original focus tree was essentially the generic tree with some different focus names. That wouldn’t come even close to making Finland justice, while many of the Finland-related events, such as the Winter/Continuation wars, do not require a Finnish tree to work (especially since the Soviets were the ones attacking)
