27th of August 1939 - German-Polish border, Eastern Europe

Agence France-Presse Socialiste, Berlin, 5am: Our correspondents in Berlin report that about 45 minutes ago the long anticipated German invasion of Poland has begun. It is reported that at 4:15am the battleship Schleswig-Holstein began bombarding the Westerplatte garrison of Poland. Previous reports have estimated that around 45 divisions are assembled near the German-Polish border, which are now all moving into Poland. We have had no response from the Polish government yet, and the German officials say that the matter will be explained at a press conference at 6am. We will follow these developments very closely.

German Invasion of Poland, Day 5: The Pommeranian corridor has been seized, Danzig has been occupied and Cracow has fallen. Armia Pomorze and Armia Poznan are on the run towards Warsaw. The Polish are now preparing defensive lines behind the Vistula.

On the same night Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, addressed the British nation. He spoke the legendary words: "This country is now at war with Germany." and warned the British people of the dangers of air warfare. He also stated that this war was a personal blow to him, as he did everything he could to avert war. His speech was only 5 minutes long, and was followed by announcements on what to do when the air alarm sounded.

Because the declaration of war between the Commonwealth of the British Empire and the German Empire came right in the middle of the 19th Labour and Socialist International, once single response was sent out by l'Union Française: "Get out of Poland. NOW.". Currently there has been no German reponse. If the Germans fail to respond by September the 4th, Léon Blum will order full mobilisation. The new state of war between Germany and the Commonwealth has sped up the process for our entire into the League of Nations considerably: we're now an observer member of the League of Nations. This means that we can establish diplomatic relations with all nations within the League of Nations, and that we agree to resolve most conflicts by negotiation. Jean Longuet has achieved his first major goal as Président: he has managed to get France out of its international isolation. But a fate far worst might hang above France If the Germans finish off the British.

Polish-Situation-After-2-Weeks.jpg

German Invasion of Poland, Day 19: The Polish weren't able to build enough fortifications on the east bank of the Vistula, and as a result the Germans were able to occupy the eastern Vistula banks by Day 12. On Day 16, Warsaw fell. The new Polish command center has been setup in Brest-Litovsk, while the government has moved to Lomza. On Day 18 the Polish launched a successful offensive into East Prussia, but this won't stop the Germans from annexing the country within 2 weeks.

How will it cost you in terms of dissent to DoW Germany ?

Soviets-Occupy-Eastern-Poland.jpg

German Invasion of Poland, Day 20: The Soviet Union has intervened to "protect the substantial Ukrainian and Belorussian populations in Eastern Poland.". The Polish Army' escape route into Romania has been cut off: all that's left now is two pockets: once in Prussia, one around Lublin. Poland is lost.

"This is an outrage!" raged Jean Longuet during a speech on the balcony of the Palais du Peuple, "that those Soviet swines think they'll get away with this! After years of provocation, this oppressive giant must be stopped! We shall not rest until the so called socialist Union of Russia and its puppets has been destro..". Longuet wasn't able to finish his sentence, since breaking news had just arrived. He turned completely white upon hearing this recent news: "I must inform you, the French people, in name of the cabinet of the Socialist Republic of France... we are now at war with the German Empire.". The enthusiastic crowd was abruptly silenced. "I suggest we all go home now, to our families, to our wives and our children. We will need them, because dark times lie ahead..." spoke Longuet, clearly defeated, before walking off the balcony. Inside sat Léon Blum at his desk, ordering the mobilisation of the border regions of Wallonia and the Alsace-Lorraine. "Why.. why didn't you tell me?" asked Longuet. "It was best you didn't know, yet. But there is no time for discussions right now. The people of France need us right now, and you are expected on le Radio Français in half an hour. I will direct the mobilization, you will direct the people." responded Blum.

The entire Union Française has joined in the war against the Fascist menace of Germany.

Mobilization-of-Border-Areas.jpg

One week into the war, six new divisions were formed out of conscripts in the border areas of Wallonia and the Alsace-Lorraine. These formations will be deployed as reserves at first, so then can train to full combat strength. After one week of war between the Socialist Republic and the Fascist Third Reich, not a single shot has been fired. Not a single German plane has been over France since the declaration of war. The French High Command doesn't like this. It means the Germans are preparing something. The 3ième Armée, under command of General Doulemenc, has moved to Wallonia to move into Belgium If the Germans would put Fall Gelb into effect.

PS.: Those six divisions were handed to me in an event chain I created called "Mobilization!", but for some reason my screenshots of it weren't saved. This is an event chain that will fire every month (for 3 months). The first gave me 6 divisions, the second will give me 4 and the last will give me 2 addition divisions. This is to simulate mobilization, a mechanic that isn't in AoD. However, If you find this event chain gamey, I will destroy the divisions that came with it and continue with my "regular" armed forces. It's up to you to decide :)

EDIT: I forgot to mention this: the event chain also takes extra manpower away from me, to compensate for the speed of the mobilization.

GAMEYGAMEYGAME- wait, what? that is just a great idea! (does germany get mobilised too?)

They haven't yet, since they are striking from a mobilized perspective. However, I could mod this in to add challenge.

I think it's a good idea, especially if the event has a cost in terms of manpower and maybe supplies.
Oh btw the divisions should be named this way: "1ère Division de Wallonie"
"2éme Division de Wallonie" and so on.

Thanks for the spelling correction :)

And yeah, each event drains the amount of manpower it would take me to create them and additional 15 manpower, to compensate for getting new divisions so quickly. I hadn't thought of removing supplies yet, but it's a great idea. I'll take away the grand total of supplies it would take to fully supply these formations away :)

You're welcome ! :)

Perfect !

Perfect !

As an additional penalty, I've also decreased my industrial output by 15%. Again, to simulate that workers are forced to leave their jobs to go fight in the armed forces :)

For some reason my IC went down by 45 from 220 to 175 when I DoW'd, so I didn't even have to mod the reduced IC :p (It isn't thanks to my dissent, because partisan activity only takes out 3 factories)

Nice events.
It represents the mobilisation process pretty well IMHO.
I hope that you'll have still enough IC to build up your aiforce.
Can you show us some kind of OOB if it's possible ?

I'm sorry, but I won't be able to update this AAR anymore for the next few days for medical reasons. But I'll keep on writing, so expect some stuff up this/after this weekend :)

Oh I hope you're ok !
Get well soon! :)

15th of October 1939 - Paris, Socialist Republic of France

Last night the command structure inside the French Army has been changed to the following:

OOB-France-October1939.jpg

- Red Area: Falls under Karl Marx-line-HQ (commanded by General Dubuisson). In this area the largest formations are stationed right now. Currently 32 divisions are stationed here: the 6ième Armée in Mulhouse and Strassbourg (under command of General Francois), the 4ième Armée in Metz and Arlon (under command of General Colson) and the 7ième Armée in Bastogne and Liège (under command of General Lafont Chabert).
- Green Area: Falls under Northern HQ (commanded by General Pretelat). Currently only one army, the 15ième Armée (under command of General Giraud) is stationed in the area. Counts 11 divisions total.
- Purple Area: Falls under Reserve HQ (commanded by General d'Arras). Only 4 divisions are stationed here: the partially mobilized 2ième Armée is stationed here (under command of General de Verdillac).
- Blue Area: Falls under direct command of Paris. Is commanded by the Chief of the Army, Marchel Cachin. Currently the armoured reserves (the 3ième and 21ième Armée du Cuirassée) are stationed in this area. They count 9 divisions.

Nine more divisions are under being trained and are expected to be combat ready by January 1940. Another 3 armoured divisions are also being built, who are expected to arrive near March. Our fighter project has been postponed to bring our ground forces at full strength first.

After increasing our intelligence budget, intelligence reports:

Intelligence-Reports-October-1939.jpg

The Germans seem to be concentrating towards building infantry divisions. The French High Command is seriously worried by the 180 suspected German divisions, but these reports are much better than the previously reported 220 divisions. And we must also keep in mind that almost 30 of these divisions are either outdated or just for garrison duties. Even so, this leaves 140-150 combat ready German divisions. What is worst, is the clear air superiority the Germans have: we have developed superior fighters, but the Germans can rule the skies of France by sheer size of their airforce. Their navy is just a joke: even the outdated France Navy could take on the small Kriegsmarine.

With the three new armoured divisions how many will you have ?

With the three new armoured divisions how many will you have ?

12 armoured divisions, which I organised into corpses of 3 divisions each. Then I'll have 4 armoured corpses, which I plan on using as fire brigades If Plan Arc-en-Ciel goes wrong (which, considering my low moral and organisation because I'm only in the early Human Wave doctorine tree, seems quiet likely).
