L'Ère des Rois: a long term campaign

Discussion thread

This caimpaign consists in an Age of Exploration scen where the balance of powers are a prime objetive in order to keep this game playable til Napoleon's Age.

some rules were made for that:

-No country can take more than 2 core provinces from other country that has the same religion (2 per country). A limit of 4 provinces were signed when they are non core provinces (this rule won't be followed on colonies or other countries of a different religion)

-During a war, when a country has -90 percent war points or less, that country has a limit of 1 year to peace out (forced to) or try to recover some war points (-89 or higher) in order to avoid the peace.

-leaders of alliance's rule removed.

-if a human country is vassalized by force must stay in such that state for 20 years (minimum)

-a Counter-reform country can't dow catholic countries unless this country has a cassus belli on the other.

-royal rule removed.

Other Rules:

-Forcing to release vassals are considered as part of a peace agreement. There's no limit about the amount of vassals that can be forced to set free, but we will consider each vassal as 15 war points (15 per province) that will be included in the peace treaty.

-Peace agreements which demand more than the war scores can be refused without being forced, no matter if the damanding country has more than 90 war points.

-Treaties are available as peace agreements too (it must be accepted by the two parts). These treaties could state a long peace (more than 5 years), rights of colonization, the elimination of embargos, trading rights or even the exchange of provinces peacefully. These treaties must be respected by the two parts. However they could be broken after a period of 25 years (minimum).

More rules can be made or edited. If someone is interested to play this campaign, post here (leave the five favourite countries you'd like to play), I'll appreciate some other opinions or rules.

This game was created to have fun. Personal matters or insults won't be tolerated here.

This game will try to imitate reality, war results must not be so destructive that we are acostummed to see. Diplomacy is important as well as roleplaying too. In fact this game is intended to make players to realize that there're many other ways to be dominant in Europe like Vassalizations, religious convertions and force other countries to release vassals.

I intend to join one longterm game in a few weeks, but when did you want to play each week?

Ah yes, and you mean campaign, not campaing. :)

This is about to start the next week, it depends on how many players we can recruit. About the time we would be playing on fridays and saturdays, but i insist, it depends on others.
the normal AoE sounds good for me, but Pe's scen could work either.

I wanna try a new play style with England. Count me in!

Pibe: Check out my scenario in my signature. It has some of the P.Ebbesen changes that are more reasonable, but not the extreme ones (like Persia existing, mega-boosted Denmark/Portugal, etc). Maybe we could use it as a compromise?

Game's mechanism:

-subs will be permitted.

-the organizer (me) has the last voice in other things that are not stated in the rules. For example the amount of the compensation a country must receive after being controlled by Ai.

-sessions will be starting in time (thing that will be discussed soon). we will wait a maximum of 10 minutes for those players who communicate (to me or on the threads) that they would be late.

-If a player crashes (and that player isn't at war), the game continues for 3 years maximum.

-Rehostings will be made in the same channel (always)

-edits will be permitted

-Icq isn't necessary for playing this game, but it's recommended because it's the only way the organizer or the host can inform others about changes (time, channel, edits, etc) Also, diplomacy can be made using icq.

Other Rules:

-human players can't do the following thing:
After a war, a country can't dow Ai allies that were incorporated recently for other country in order to force that country to defend its ally. (5 years of peace must be waited or at least -5 stab have to be spent though)

These treaties could state a long peace (more than 5 years), rights of colonization, the elimination of embargos, trading rights that eliminate the effect of the rule of embargoes or even the exchange of provinces peacefully. These treaties must be respected by the two parts. However they could be broken after a period of 25 years (minimum).

Thanx for the invitation Pibe, but I think this game has a few too many rules for my blood.... although I like some of them, I dislike others - eg. the ban on seperate peaces. Historically, seperate peaces were actually used a lot and I see no good reason to remove that option.

Btw, you should check out my 1492 scenario - which is different from both Paradox's and Mr. Ebessen's scenarios. I'm starting a new game with it, feel free to join.

thank you very much Hive.
About the separate peace, i didn't remove it, I'm just trying to avoid that a country joins a war and Wp inmediately. that from my point of view is something like dishonoring the alliance and must be penalized by -1 stab. (that's why i set a limit of 5 years)

About new scens, sure, I would like you to give me the file so i can take a look.

well, I'm intending to play on mornings (nights in Usa).

most of you were asking me about the core provinces rule, This rule not only brings more stability at the beginning but it is more historical also. anyway this rule doesn't work on other religions and Ai, so for example if the Ottoman Empire wants to partitionate Austria or Hungary it can do it. Same about Austria with Brandenburg. This rule was created in order to avoid early partitionism, and if France goes Catholic it brings stability with its neighbours like Spain and Austria. Anyway this has effect on core provinces, that means for example that France can lose Savoy, alsace and Genoa in one war cus they aren't cores for France. Other thing, this rule works per country, if France lost against England, Spain and Austria, these winner countries could ask for 6 core provinces (2 per country) note: and they were all catholic nations.
