I recall reading in a recent dev diary that the PDS team occasionally takes ideas from the Suggestions forum on national ideas. Since I was doing a bit of reading on Spanish history today, I decided to make a proposal for national ideas for Leon and Galicia, the two idea-less states in Iberia.
Tolerance of the True Faith: +1
Fort Defense: +10.0%
Legacy of Asturias: -0.05 Monthly War Exhaustion - When the heathen Moors first invaded Spain, it was only the Kingdom of Asturias which succeeded in defending its independence, and with it Latin culture and Catholicism. Let us never forget the sacrifices of our forefathers who perished defending Christendom, so that we may draw strength from their bravery.
Sword of the Reconquista: +10.0% Morale of Armies - Since our ancestors' recapture of Toledo in the 11th century, Leon has always stood at the forefront in the wars against the Muslims. Though the Moors are scarcely a threat any longer, the zeal and spirit of our warriors is well-known across the courts of Europe.
Mozarabic Art: +1 Prestige - The Mozarabs are the Christian population of Spain who adopted Moorish culture but remained strong in their faith. Their art and music, being a fusion of Visigothic, Latin, and Arabic influences, is unique and highly sought after. Let us patronize their enrichment of Leonese culture.
Bastion of Iberian Christianity: +1 Yearly Papal Influence - Neither the Arian Visigoths nor the Muslim Moors succeeded in parting the Leonese people from the bosom of the Catholic Church. The Holy Father rests easy knowing that Leon shall always stand fast in service to the Faith.
Repopulate the Mesetas: +15.0% National Manpower Modifier - Much of southern Leon is sparsely-populated, dry highlands that once formed the frontier between Christendom and Islam. Though the people there may be few in number, they are hardy and faithful. By encouraging settlement, we can rely on a steady supply of able soldiers to serve in our glorious armies.
Las Cortes: -5 Years of Separatism - The people of Leon have always been a fiercely-independent lot. By extending many of the laws and freedoms we full-blooded Latins enjoy to our other subjects, they will think twice before trying to resist our benevolent rule.
The Houses of Leon: +1 Diplomatic Reputation - It was from the Kingdom of Leon that many of the esteemed noble houses of Spain once originated from. The aristocracy remains very powerful, and their influence and talents can certainly make dealing with other powers easier for us.
Ambition
+1.00 Legitimacy
Shipbuilding Time: -10.0%
Possible Advisers: +1
The Way of St. James: +10.0% Provincial Trade Power - One of the largest paths of pilgrimage in Christendom leads to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. The shrine to the Apostle James draws foreigners from across the known world, but their gold all speaks the same language to our coffers.
Galicia la Bella: +1.00 Attrition for Enemies - Unlike the dry scrublands to the south, Galicia's landscape is dominated by mountains and ceaseless rain. Galicians themselves are almost as inhospitable to invaders as the terrain, as many a foreigner came to realize. Let none dare step in our land!
Rein in the Cities: -0.05 Monthly Autonomy Change - Galicia in the 14th and 15th centuries was dominated by bloody conflict between the nobility and church one side, and the urban burghers on the other. In the worst years, many cities were independent in all but name from the Galician crown. By crushing these petty oligarchs, peace and order has returned to the realm.
Galician Shipyards: +5.0% Ship Durability - The Atlantic is a harsh mistress, and only the sturdiest vessels may survive her harrowing embrace. Galician vessels have always been renowned for their sturdiness. With further patronage from the Crown, these dockyards can continue crafting formidable ships that can withstand waves and cannon alike.
Santiago y Cierra! +1 Land Leader Shock - 'Santiago y Cierra!' (St. James and close!) was the rallying call of Spanish crusaders against the Moors during the Reconquista. It was in Galicia that the holy remains of St. James were found, so let it be known that the Apostle holds our people in especial esteem. Victory and glory await only the bold, and none are bolder than Galicians!
Cantabrian Seamen: +10.0% Naval Morale - It takes a brave sailor to set out in the treacherous waters of the Cantabrian Sea and Bay of Biscay. But not even some of the harshest weather in the known world has dampened Galicia's love of the ocean. After the harsh battering of countless storms, the Galician fleet knows no fear from mere shot and cutlass.
Los Irmandinos: +10.0% Infantry Combat Ability - The Galician peasant is equally legendary for his hardiness and rebellious temperament. By drafting the members of the bandit 'brotherhoods' into our army, we can gain a hardened core of ruthless and experienced soldiers. Our high-born classes are sick of having their manors burned down anyway.
