So, when I heard from the developers that they made a few changes to the AI in Lem, I didn`t expect it to be able to repeatedly hire marauder mercenaries to free their home system while my fleets are on the other side of my empire in a different war. I also noticed that the AI is now doing a MUCH better job at organizing their planets (Screenshot). There are always at least 2-3 standard AI empires with higher score than me after 2300 (for now)! If they made the AI this much better without it even being their main focus, I can`t wait to see what they do next!

Helps alot that they corrected the outstanding designation errors, and let the AI build order have additional tech before 2300.

The degination thing was really bad caused it caused self reinforcing alloy/CG deficits. "I'm low on CG ill build another industrial district on my FORGE WORLD". The AI couldn't grok the job shift, and the auto designation was all it had. But the changes to the booster buildings and the addition of industrial which is higher weight on a fresh world helps it not death spiral.

Lesser weight to refinery designation helps too.

One outstanding issue, and it’s probably quite a difficult one to solve due to how the game was made, is that each planet considers its production independently. Because of this there can sometimes be wild swings in production as multiple planets start queuing buildings/districts to deal with the same minor shortfall. If you automate planets this can be seen whenever there’s any kind of strategic resource deficit. A -1 to any will result in dozens of planets queuing up refineries, causing a huge mineral consumption as scores of strategic resources start being produced.

Going forward I hope the AI changes allow planetary economies to coordinate better, and allow the AI to demolish/replace buildings and districts that are no longer needed. Those would be great improvements.

AI is more competent, still I frequently attack underdeveloped planets on grand admiral, so there is a wiiiiiiiiide way to improvement.

I think undeveloped planets are largely the consequence of two factors. On one hand the AI prefers to build districts rather than buildings (or so we were told) but perhaps more importantly, pop growth slows down as the game progresses.

I play on Grand Admiral, and I have noticed the AI has some improvements - they're now only inferior to me in tech rather than pathetic 30 years in. It's a step up, but there's a long way to go.
