Legitimized bastard can't inherit?

I made a legitimate bastard with my countess neighbor but our dutchess is still set to inherit her county. I don't understand why my legitimized bastard isn't considered. It's an agnatic-cognatic gavelkind and she's the last of her dynasty. She's also betrothed to my son

I'm pretty sure this is how it works (but its been awhile since tried to do this so I might be wrong):

1. Guy gets first chance to make legitimate. If he does. Then kid becomes one of his heirs not the moms.

If guy declines to legitimize.

2. Women gets chance to legitimize (if so kid joins her dynasty) and becomes on of her heirs.

This makes sense in a way. Otherwise my seducer king would have all the women he is hooking up with legitimize his kids and get claims on his titles through them.

That said I don't recall a women ever legitimizing a kid... so might be wrong on point 2. But I know you can't legitimize a bastard and get claims on moms titles.

Yeah, what Tur4 says makes sense. By legitimizing the kid yourself, you tie him to your dynasty and prevent his mother from legitimizing him... And if she can't legitimize him, he's a bastard and can't inherit.

I don't know about above. Sometimes it takes time for the game to recognize the legitimized kid as heir. I had some games where I had no sons and went on a seduction spree. I legitimized one boy but he was not shown as the heir until my next legitimate child was born. Maybe you should just wait and inform us if there is any change in the situation.

In those cases he would be YOUR heir, right? In OPs case, it's about why the kid isn't the mothers' heir. Quite different situations.

I've just have the same problem. I have a legitimised son with one of my duchess and I really needed him to become my heir but he didn't. Finally, the problem was solved when I granted him a title, he become the heir immediately.
