I assume so, as they were such an importance.

The battles are going to look something like. I am assuming that the first group is auxillary troops.

Is it possible to build the legions and auxilia troups in the game for Rome side?
with difference between the legions and the auxilia.

I believe for the sake of simplicity EU3:Rome allows you to build light troops, heavy infantry, cavalry, horse archers, elephants and archers (in that order as depicted on the screen shot comagoosie provided). This seems perfectly acceptable since by in large the auxillary forces were basically the same as their legionary counterparts and it allows for a standard throughout the ancient word at the time (e.g. I believe that Macedonian phalanxes are represented by the same heavy infantry as the leionary cohorts even though they were drasticaly different on a tactical level).

A question I have is whether "manpower" will be reflected as it has been in say EU3 or if legions gain experience but their numbers never get reinforced as they were in history. Logistically it was untenable to reinforce a legion with new troops because there was no means by which the staff could track who had completed their years of service exept by going by when the legion was formed or renewed its "contract" etc. I guess this feature is not all that important but it does impact how experience is tracked in the game.

Seems that uppermost unit could represent auxilia pretty well. Paradox called them 'Militia' in one thread, but hopefuly they are quite good at combat. 'Light' doesn't mean 'weak', and in Macedonian army we see Hypastpists, quite an opposite for 'weak' ;)

AFAIK Paradox have said that there will be differences between different types of heavy infantry etc.

It will probably be an average of the troops experience. A cohort is at full experience, losses half of its strength, after it is reinforced, it will have half experience.

Check out the screenshots. Roman units for example have different names then Greek. For example, Greek seem to have units like Hypaspits (auxilia), Hetairoi (cavalry) Pezetharoi (heavy inf) and Psiloi (archers), while Roman units are like Equites (cavalry) and Principes (heavy inf). So we can *assume* these are different kinds of units.

One thing is troop types (which will be handled similarly to EU3, i think). Another one is their efficency, which is tied not only to troop types, but also civilzation value. In one of the previews Johan stated that barbarians HI won't be so effective unless they are more civilized..
