Viden: Well, I don't know about the USSR. They seem more pacifist than usual...
Caligo: If the USSR decides to intervene that is...
General Jac: Hopefully they will.
rcduggan: Darn, I thought I could get away with that. xD Actually, I had already noticed that but I didn't really want to change the title image just because of a minor misspelling.
Crush3r: I don't think that Romania will switch sides as long as Bucharest stand.
Balkan Front: August 26th - November 12th 1942
With the re-capture of Belgrade and most of Serbia, the Roman Empire has shown the world that Germany can be defeated. However, even though Germany has suffered some terrible defeats, it's presence is still strong in the Balkans. Romania holds a vast amount of German troops inside it's borders, ready to revenge the defeat at Stip. A large force of Axis troops is also stationed along the Dalmatian coast, most notably in Mostar and Dubronovik. The Roman High Command has come to the dreadful conclusion that if the Roman Empire will have the strength and ability to move towards Austria and Northern Italy, Romania must be eliminated. Only then can the Roman Army release those great numbers of troops stationed along the Bulgarian-Romanian border.
During the advance into Serbia, the German and Romanian armies felt the true force of the Roman Air Force. Hundreds of troops fell victims to the effectivness of the Roman bombers and several enemy divisions ceased to exist. The Roman Air Force would continue it's deadly campaign as long as it was necessary.
As the Roman pilots flies over the tattered plains of Yugoslavia and Romania, the Allies in Asia struggles to fight the might of the Japanese Empire. The United States has in a bold move managed to seize the Marshall Islands from the Japanese, but the Philippines are almost entirely under Imperial Japanese control, excluding Manila and Lingayen Bay.
In Burma, the British Army fights to preserve their control over the region alongside their Chinese allies. Even if the Japanese Army has failed in it's attempt to conquer the region and have also lost important eastern territories to the Chinese, the IJA has a tight grip on Rangoon and the southern areas which they will not give up so easily. However, during the course of three months, the IJA has claimed most of their control over Burma, threating Imphal.
In Europe and the Balkans, the Roman Empire's successful offensive have grounded to a halt. During the whole of September, no further advances are made by either Roman or German forces. What does advance is the Roman technology front. On September 8th, the Macedonian Military Industries developes new weapons for the Imperial Army while the Air Force receives new training in form of a doctrine called Low Echelon CAS Doctrine, making the CAS branch of the Air Force better at cooperation with land forces.
Waiting for a good moment to strike, September is used for re-supplying, re-organisation and to give the soldiers the peace they need to get used to the new weapons and new training. It's during these times that the Roman Command prepares different plans for somehow forcing Romania out of the war. However it's not the Romans who makes the first move, it's the Germans.
On October 5th, Nis is assaulted by a massive force of German-Romanian troops. Demestichas quickly organise a defense but despite it he still faces the same problem as before. Numerical superiority by the enemy, commanded by a new face on the Balkan Front...
To prevent a certain defeat at Nis, General Brahnos marches with his forces from Vraca into Romania, inflicting grave casualties on Rommel's east flank. With his flank almost completely penetrated and the failure in defeating Demestichas at Nis, Rommel cancels the attack at Nis and tries to hold Brahnos at bay. However, Brahnos has managed to establish a strong presence close to Craiova and succeeds in capturing the city a second time. Rommel is soon forced to retreat to Pitesti for reinforcements of his troops.
With Rommel retreating from Craiova, the battle is called off and Nis is safe. But only six days later Demestichas decides for an attack towards Timisoara were he briefly fougth a year ago. Facing him is Erich von Manstein's force of mixed Axis troops. The attack begins on October 14th and last for about about 15 hours. The reason is most likely the effectivness of the new weapons produced by Macedonian Military Industries which proves superior to the German Karbiner 98K and Gewehr 43.
Attack at Timisoara. The main reason was to force the Germans into a panicked retreat were the Roman Air Force would blow them to smithereens.
Having won the Battle of Timisoara and driven the enemy at full retreat, Demestichas returns to behind Serbian lines. A day later, Rommel moves once again to Craiova to stop General Brahnos from fully seizing control of the province. However, Brahnos is aided by Demestichas and Rommel is once again on the retreat.
But on October 25th, when the province is fully under control by the Roman Empire, a devasting attack is made from Bucharest by Axis forces. Despite even that a support attack is launched from Pleven against Bucharest, Brahnos is still steadly being pushed back and is soon forced to abandon the entire province after just a few hours of the Roman takeover.
Soon the Axis has re-captured the province and Craiova once again returns to Romanian control. However, on November 3rd, an interesting oppertunity presents itself. Due to Intelligence, a large part of the enemy forces defending Constanta has recently left the area. The reason for this is unknown but it makes the once powerful defenses around Constanta vulvernable to attack which Field Marshal Pitsikas immidetly uses. On the morning of November 3rd, Pitsikas orders his officers to prepare for an assault at Constanta, an order which is taken with appreciation. It was a long time ago the soldiers in Varna had something big to do.
The Axis defenses suprisingly collapses just a few hours after the attack and on 1500 hours on November 3rd, the Axis is on full retreat. Constanta is fully occupied on November 6th by Roman forces.
