Hey guys.

This probably a massive newbie question, but, uhhh, where do I find the ledger? I've looked every where and I can't seem to find it

Cheers

edit: Oh dear, just found it after a bit more looking. Seriously, I had a lot of trouble finding it. Theres not mention of it in the manual, let alone any tutorials like EU3 :/

It wouldn't be in the manual. The ledger was added in Deus Vult, and the manual hasn't been updated since CK 1.00 in '04.

Feel free to ask questions on the forum. Veld did not get 18,952 posts by repeatedly insulting everyone who had a question. And there's no way I'm gonna get to 3,000 and a custom avatar without answering a couple hundred more newbie questions.

We prefer if you to search the forum first, tho. You have to use google to do it, but this thread shows you how:

Cheers guys, after playing around in game for a bit, I'm finally starting to get the hang of things. After starting small as the Duchy of Brandenburg, I've been able to craft myself a nice tidy little kingdom in Poland :)

Anyone got any similiar video tutorials for Victoria? Paradox are such a bunch of funny bunnies, they make the most fantastic, complex and in depth games imaginable, but then they just **** everyone up by including no tutorials. Personally I think its hilarious.

First of all don't use foul language and second in their more recent games Paradox has included tutorials

Oh sorry, my bad, I didn't really mean that in a negative way or anything. Won't happen again boss :)

But even the more recent games only give you fairly brief explanations of whats going on, compared to stuff like Medieval 2 they pretty much hold your hand throughout the first campaign, which in some ways is necessary for newbies like myself (and I'm fairly certain I'm not the only one)

No problem

Yes, CK could have used a tutorial, but Paradox is improving in that field. Their manuals are now much better (and thicker) then they were and they at least have tutorials.

But then again, CK with a tutorial and a good manual would have meant that I would have about +15,000 posts less :p

Part of the fun in CK (for me, at least) was seeing new things and going "WOAH this is AWESOME!". A tutorial that guided you through a campaign (well, let's say, a brief scenario) would have taken away from that, IMO.

Same here, actually. My favourite part of Paradox games is right when I get the new game and have no idea what anything is, completely overwhelmed by all the complexity. Then little by little, somehow, I figure it all out.

The drop-down contextual help boxes that you get when you hover over something--they help a lot. But there's always some point where I need a good reference with a good glossary of terms. :)

IMO a big reason they don't bother with tutorials is because the games are patched up in a big way after release and subject to massive change. And TBH I don't think they really help much anyway.

I think the best possible tooltips is whats really needed (and lacking in vic for sure)

Also part of the whole PI experience for me is getting to know the folks in each new forum and thinking "that chap seems to be the wise one here, I think I'll be super nice to him, I'll need him later "

True about all the changes with patches. I've gotten most of my info on how to play Paradox games off Paradoxian.org, but the don't seem to have a wiki for Crusader Kings, which is why I've been a bit stuck (in the beginning).

Well, the tutorial of the HOI III-demo was pretty useless.
They should improve this even more in their future games, to get more newbies into the games.

This is interesting; I bought CK "Complete" off gamersgate and when I load up it definitely has the Deus Vult screen with the guy on horseback. But my screen does not look quite like Veld's up above.

11570310.jpg

Most notably: no ledger tab down there.

Now I'm thinking that maybe DV is not completely installed, else the version they are now selling on GG is not the full version??

If you buy CK Complete from Gamersgate, you buy Crusader Kings and Deus Vult.

Make sure you have also downloaded and installed DV correctly, DV needs to be installed on top of Crusader Kings. Most likely you have installed DV in a separate folder inside your main Crusader Kings folder.

Yep. It appears I dLed the DL app for Deus Vult into the Paradox/CK folder, but never clicked on it to have it actually DL the game.

So my next question: things were going so well, but I'm probably gonna lose my 1089 save game once I install DV fully right?

It was that DV screen at the start of the last version of CK that threw me off! :p Damn "avertisers!"

ADDIT: OH YEAH! save game started in CK started up JUST fine with DV!

I like this game; not really like any other game I've ever played. Even Rome doesn't do quite such a good job of simulating the social stuff! :)

Remember to apply the beta-patch from October ... CK Complete does not have that (I think it contains the one from June).

I can't think of a reason why it shouldn't work, I don't think the way things were handled in the savegames was changed. Or maybe the spots for health and fertility were swapped around, but that shouldn't be a major change, just a bit weird the first time it happens. And once all the characters living in 1089 are dead that, or the way childrens stats are generated, won't matter.

I even got a DV save from the 1080s working after installing DVIP and DVIP-Wales (and i'm playing a Welsh ruler). This did require a bit of savegame editing, the save gives me database mismatch errors when loading, and DynasticGlory bugs a bit, but I can play just fine.
