How in the world did you guys leave out Finland in a eastern front DLC. You make the excuse oh we didn't have time. Well maybe don't focus on 3 useless nations and make time for Finland. Finland was one of the most important minor nations on the eastern front and leaving them out is an absolute disgrace. I will not buy this DLC and I hope this DLC gets review bombed.

I think they gave a valid reason - countries works best when it can interact with other countries with it, and Finland has the most interactions with other Nordic states. At least this way it’ll get the most attention as the “star” of the show (compared to Denmark, Norway and Sweden, definitely Iceland)

FInland has way more interaction with the soviet union considering they FOUGHT TWICE.

No it does not. Unless the idea is to make a bunch of idiotic "Scandinavian Empire" memes.

The major interactions Finland had during the war were with USSR and Germany, not the Scandis.

And in a Scandi pack, Finland will not be "the star"; that place is reserved as always to Sweden. Finland will have at most equal attention to Norway.

I'm going to be surprised if certain other country with blue and yellow in its flag won't get the most attention if/when a DLC focusing on those countries is eventually released... =P

I wonder when this decision was made. What makes the most sense to me is that Finland was meant to be in this DLC. Otherwise it makes no sense that they made Battle for the Bosphorous before this DLC, instead of the Nordic country pack. Had they made trees for the Scandinavian nations and Finland instead, we would've had a treee for Finland before this DLC.

here’s what else is frustrating;

the eventual Scandinavian update with Finland will probably break parts of the Soviet play through

Germany I believe has some interactions with Finland as is, and USSR it seems like will get some content to influence the continuation war.

I’m guessing for the Scandinavian dlc they’ll be throwing in some of the softer alt history like “what if the other Nordics sent more aid to Finland?” Or what if Norway didn’t fall and the allies had access to supply Finland?

I wonder when this decision was made. What makes the most sense to me is that Finland was meant to be in this DLC. Otherwise it makes no sense that they made Battle for the Bosphorous before this DLC, instead of the Nordic country pack. Had they made trees for the Scandinavian nations and Finland instead, we would've had a treee for Finland before this DLC.

I thought they would “split the difference” and do historical + soft alt history Finland with NSB and then do the alt history half with whatever country pack

Indeed. A reworked Soviet focus tree must include the winter war and interactions with Finland.

Even from the devs' own words, it makes no sense to separate the two.

Unless Finland main interactions with its neighbours should be nonsensical Scandinavians Empire formation. Which is unfortunately the most likely scenario.

a year or so ago. and BFTB was done first because people wanted turkey a lot more than scandinavia.

To summarize basically. there were lots of factors why it didnt really get added here
  • Balancing barbarossa and land warfare and supply is a huge task. trying to make the winter war super cool at the same time would require superhuman powers so we didnt wanna do it at the same time
  • generally with the way the winter war was it needs quite a lot of love to play well I think
  • there are tons of cool stuff thats only doable when you combine it with rest of scandinavia and it was awkward to split it
  • We felt Baltic states were harder to do separately with the part in soviet history so thats why we did that over scandinavia (also doing all of scandinavia isntead would be too much work)

There's far far more cool stuff which is only doable when you combine Finland with the USSR though. You (as in all of the devs) have always said that you do focus trees for countries that interacted with each other so that they mesh well. Finland is literally the prime example of this for the USSR, and the opposite for a Scandanavia focus pack - when did they have any meaningful interactions with Denmark or Norway? It's genuinely so disappointed that you've chosen to do this - is there any chance that this can be rethought?

And why if it was so much work why would you prioritise the Baltic states, which were entirely irrelevant and over whom there has been a distinct lack of excitement from anyone, over Finland. It didn't need to be all of Scandinavia obviously, but Finland is necessary for any kind of USSR rework otherwise when Finland does get their focus tree we all know that it's going to break and barely interact with the Soviet one. After the disappointing Poland and Baltic reveal, and the announcement that Italy still won't be reworked, the only thing most people were holding out hope for was Finland and USSR. If half of that is missing then what's the point?

Edit: can we just appreciate that you've prioritised Baltic Neo-paganism over the inclusion of one of the most important minors in the War in the perfect expansion for them.

I think it's astounding that in a DLC titled "No Step Back" which directly references the Soviet Union one of its primary (and perhaps most effective) adversaries is ignored in favor of 3 Baltic States that were annexed in 1940.

I'm really disappointed in Paradox here.

And why if it was so much work why would you prioritise the Baltic states, which were entirely irrelevant and over whom there has been a distinct lack of excitement from anyone, over Finland.
Makes sense to me. They had time to make a pack of focus trees, but not a pack of focus trees + new mechanics. So the Baltics fit the bill, but not Finland.

a year or so ago. and BFTB was done first because people wanted turkey a lot more than scandinavia.

Several points to take away from this:

1) because a bunch of turkish players wanted Turanic memes in the game more than Scandinavia, Finland couldn't be included in the DLC with it's primary antagonist The Soviet Union (why was Finland ever grouped together with the Scandics in the first place!?).

2) because a conflict, which intrinsically contains aspects important to the Soviet Union (defensive warfare, winter warfare, guerilla / ranger style warfare) is hard to do, it is better to skip it in favor of Scandi countries, for whom only one (maybe...) that aspect is even remotely important in this time period historically

3) there are cool things to be done with Finland that need the other Scandi countries, which makes it more important to delay (for the fifth year now...), rather than to include her into the expansion with the country she had actual cool stuff to do with historically

Finland is now hobbled by being included together with Sweden for some arbitrary reason (cool content = Kalmar Union of 1938?). The game is five years old, and by this decision it will likely be at least one more year before we see what was so important with the Finnish ties to 30's and 40's Scandies that caused her to be ignored for all this time.
