Leaving a CoT

Sorry if this has been posted before, but Paradox's search function makes me want to kill myself.

Is there some way of controlling which CoT I belong to? I'm trying to create my own as the Byzantines, but for some reason I'm stuck with Alexandria (I used to be in Venice), which is far too poor to support the creation of a new one. Any suggestions? I'd just go and conquer Alexandria it if it weren't owned by a monsterous Castillian ueberblob.

Embargo them, and from the month after you'll be in the next closest non-embargoed CoT, probably Venice.

Of course an embargo hurts your Trade Efficiency (and thus merchant compete chance) until you cancel it.

And you can't embargo hordes, much to my annoyance in Ottomans games.

Minor problem is that if you belong to a trade league you can't form a COT so you have to embargo Alexandria then get added by another COT with 800 plus size. Venice or Hansa may not let you trade with them if you don't join their trade league and no one else is big enough to support spawning a COT. If they do let you trade your set though. My previous Byz game I quit Venice's trade league and she embargoed me and Hansa wouldn't let me trade until I bribed her a couple times.

How about if your province is attached to a CoT which you can't see?
