Leave Faction?

How do I leave a faction during a war? Stage a coup of some kind?

At first I thought the AI Allies didn't know how to invade Japan, but I'm starting to suspect they're intentionally letting the war drag on to force us into a war against the Comintern.

I think there's an option to leave in the diplomacy screen with the faction leader.

I know this is an old topic, however I would like to input my suggestions for newbies.

There is no easy way of getting out of the faction during war. From what I know, you can't even leave during a war through the diplomacy screen.

Here are my two suggestions:

1. Releasing a nation; If you have a annexed nations you can release them and play as them. However you won't be able to get 100% of the land you have. You will probably have to go to war with your past faction if you want your provinces back.
2. Coup; you can coup, but you will need to go to war with your past nation.
