Hey Farwick! Welcome to EU1.

What I suggest is skip the tutorial. It seems to be full of bugs. If you need any help just ask or there will be a thread somewhere in the forum if you go searching.

I completely agree with Bocaj. The tutorial stinks, just start playing a game as Spain or France and you should get used to the system pretty quickly. And I can't say enough about the folks on this forum. they are awesome at helping with game and technical problems. I've bene playing since 2001 and I am always learning something new from these forums. Welcome to EU and the forums!!

England is also a good first choice, providing you stay the hell away from France. They always seem to take over the islands if you fight 'em real early.

As others have said, skip the tutorial.

I suggest playing as Russia in 1492 for a good introduction to the game. At first, all you need to worry about is improving your infrastructure and land expansion to the south. Later, diplomacy, exploration, and colonisation will become more important.

Turkey's a good country to start out with also. No need to worry about colonialism early and the ability to raise large inf armies so cheaply (just like Russia) helps you overcome a lot of mistakes.

With Austria you don't even have to worry about navies for a time but you do have a lot of counties bordering you. But its a good country to learn the land/diplomacy/economy part of the game. That lets you leave the colonial and naval parts for later games.
