Hello all!

Something I noticed in the demo, but it is occuring in the main game as well. There is a tendency for your leader to keep on randomly dying then replaced by random clan person which shortly dies and replaced by another, which then dies again.. you marry them off they die before having any kids, it is like whack-a-mole with leaders.

There is no connection with the characters, I don't have Masamune's marriage and possible children, seeing little Yuudai's first foot steps or when his rival and brother Akida decides to take provinces and challenge his birthright. None of the intrigue or connection with the characters I had back in Crusader Kings when you had family members you could relate to other than "Random Generation of some one from your Dynasty".

What are there ages?

I have to admit though a lot of character seems to die under the age of 40, my leader however was not one of them. His hier died when being 30 though.

My first leader died when 44, and the heir was around 30, he died a year or so later and replaced by another one who was around 30-40 again, and he died, then replaced by another...

It seems they have no opportunity at all to have kids. Really annoying when I set up some very good political marriages with other powerful clans, then they simply die and the random generated replacements obviously have no wives or children of their own and simply die quickly later. Seems the entire clan was made of bachelors.

This obviously ruins the "betrothed" mechanic of the game which is good, but since the person I just betrothed to them dies within a year or two, it kills the point of it.

This also caused complicated Vassal issues as my vassals were all clans-men, so as soon as I appointed vassals, they started dying like flies and just merging all the territory back together again.

Probably misleading saying "leaders", as it is generally "everyone" which is dying, especially the leaders.

So it appears that the "death" event is occurring far too frequently. Probably will have to try to find where-ever it is so I can tune it down a lot, would like at least one leader to survive more than 5 years minimum.

Tend to agree, it's with slightly too high frequency / probability that my family members die. Particularly the younger ones. Are they being assassinated without my knowledge or just random death events...?

Indeed, my biggest gripe with the death system is not having any idea of how the character died. Has it been in battle? Poisoned? Died during sleep? Random children's disease? Some info on that would be awesome.

I'm noticing this as well. Having played 80ish years today I would struggle to name any of my leaders, wives, or children. Part of it is certainly the complete lack of meaningful interaction between characters, which itself stems from a lack of events within the family. It's a very lifeless game in this respect. Hopefully that'll be improved with mod event packs and expansions. A character history feature like we have in Rome would improve things too.

It might be bad luck... I had my awesome 12+ all stat heir die about 2 years into the game and then had his retarded brother (1/0/3) take the leadership, he lived long enough to put a 3 year old on the clan head. But that 3 year old has united virtually all of Kyushu, fought multiple wars, been wounded numerous times and is still living to tell the tale at 45+ years of age. While random death seems a bit annoying without knowing why I think if you play a bit longer it might stabilise out....hopefully.

This is the fly in the Sengoku soup. It's running great, it's polished, and it's beautiful. But the lack of events - character driven or clan driven - are making it a rather lifeless outing.

I do find the game moves a bit fast, even on slow speed. i played for about 20 mins and 3 years passed. i know there is alot of ground to cover but in a more character driven game like Sengoku, you want to take your time.

I am glad you was able to have a leader for 45+ Years!

But yes, your earlier successes sound similar to mine, they only last a couple of years then bam, they are dead,

One thing that could help would be appending the character title or other things that could identify him in messages. Ex: Instead of saying "Satomi Satoshi has died", it could say "Satomi Satoshi, Master of Cerimonies" or "Satomi Satoshi, the Daimyo of Musashi, has a new ambition".

Even though it is as easy as clicking the portrait to see who he is, except in case of death, when he has already lost his titles, we would start associating the names with the jobs.

Welcome to the wonderful world of RNG (combined with hidden health-stat). I've got delicious heir ready to become the clan leader but his old man just doesn't die. He's nearing his sixties now and he's leper to boot which further reduces health so he should be kicking the bucket any day now but he just insists on staying alive.

After playing for aroung one hundred years, I have to agree that deaths are somewhat random and too frequent.

I am not sure it might be a congenial health trait I mentioned before, because I had children of parents that lived until 70-75 dying early whithout any apparent reason.

As it was mentioned in another thread, it would be good to know why the character has died.

This is the fly in the Sengoku soup. It's running great, it's polished, and it's beautiful. But the lack of events - character driven or clan driven - are making it a rather lifeless outing.
Ture, the core game is great, but so far the characters are just a bunch of stats. There's no CK like connection with them where you follow your children grow and how your ruler develops new traits though events in his life. Now there's just a random ruler event here and then.

Similar thing happened to me. Could be just random chance, but as Date I had a clan leader die reasonably quickly, his son (a leper) took over and ruled for 30 years without an heir. I had him commit sepuku (experimenting with ordering a vassal who didn't like me to give up his titles had destroyed his honor) so his brother could take over the clan. But then in a period of about 3 years the leper's brother randomly died (age 47) and then HIS son the new heir died (age 20). Each time I got a new court, had to restart project build times, and had reduced vassals. It would be great if they would add the blood drop back to characters so I could see who the hell is in my dynasty.

It was all just so random. "Hey now you're no longer clan leader. Also, this other guy died, so now you're no longer daimyo."

And super frustrating because all the while the ostensible clan leader was letting the Uesugi dig into the Nanbu up north, where I was set for expansion before the chain of death destroyed my family.

Maybe realistic, but good lord...

I agree that there aren't as many character events as I'd hoped and there is no interaction with a child being raised (unlike CK where you could choose how to raise them) but I don't know that I'd say the game is lifeless. It could just be I've been lucky or that I'm easily entertained though.
