Well the thing is it also wouldn't just be for you, it would be for the other players as well... so if you encircle Rommel's army you can kill that tricky SOB and really stick it to the German player :D

I would really love something like in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, where if you win a battle you have a chance of capturing a leader. You then have a choice- release the leader, imprison the leader, or kill the leader. If you imprison them, you can later negotiate the release of that leader in exchange for gold or whatever.

Ze Dshermans lost 1 FM and about a dozen other assorted Generals in that little engagement. Just read the figures: 34000 troops were flown out ...

Or like in Pirates!Gold where he would give you a piece of a treasure-map. At least that would give Raeder and his Krigsmarine something to do ...
:D

Oh, and about aerial convoys: my U-Boats have FlAK on them .... maybe they would be useful against air-convoys, they sure aren't against the naval ones ...

The reply was to the message by disgustoid on previous page, but while writing somebody already posted three messages...
Yeah they did, due to surrender (capitulation) by FM Paulus. And the smallish corporal said that he should have commited suicide... For example Rommel was evacuated from Tunisia, Montgomery, Alexander, Gott and others from Dunkirk (as well as the whole BEF, but they were among the first to flee). Only rarely did it happen that high ranking general/FM were left to dry. And almost always Ze Germans did it.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms was great. Recommend the book too.

Did they make those (3 Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Ambition, Bandit Kings... the Phoenix one... Xiang Yu and Liu Bang... aargh... wish they hadn't stolen my Nintendo... anyways, based off the Records of the Grand Historian a la 3 Kingdoms) for the PC?
Damn you, Cao Cao! Curses, Lu Bu lost a duel to Zhang Fei! Impossible!
With an ahistorical mod so Sun Jian and Sun Ce wouldn't always die so quick?
Or the old Uesugi vs Takeda vs Imagawa vs Tokugawa vs Oda battle for the Kanto plain?
Topped off by a tea ceremony of course. 0mfg Akechi Mitsuhide - j00 snipez0r meh daimy0! #@%!
Better than Shogun:Total War those were.

But how do they do it? Do they keep a piece of paper next to the keyboard to keep track of officers taken prisoner or lost as prisoner? Who's controlling the thing ? What about battles where complete stacks are destroyed without encirclement? What about battles that no one watches ? They can hardly keep track of all the leaders that have returned to the pool without notification ...
(I have no experience in MP so I'm only guessing)

The least I'm asking for is a feature that allows me to underline/mark/hide (any of these, really) specific leaders ...

I'd definately use it for one... if the model was good (i.e. a rather unlikely but still possible event), and of course it should apply to my enemies as well. :)

That is the thing, you can do it to your enemies: Patton - gone, Zhukov - gone, Konev - gone...

Yah, that happened to me. I had Himmler commanding an Army in Paris, a reserve in case there was a Normandy invasion...Paris was nuked, and Himmler was still alive, so I assumed he was somewhere else at the time, doing something I didn't want him to do...probably shopping in Nice or something like that.

1) rommel is to 1337 (elite...sorry counterstrike language) to die.

2) they were shipping out guys in planes from stalingrad up until a few weeks of teh whole army capitulating...so it wouldnt be too hard to get a general out.

3) i think it should also depend on the terrain of the battle...one person posted that many officers were lost in the desert, which is absolutley true.

major general cruewell (commanded the DAK after rommel took command of the panzer armee afrika) was captured, lt general stumme was killed (right before teh 2nd battle of el alamein, which is why rommel returned despite poor health), and umm...i kno in 1942 during the first offensive through cyrenacia rommel captured umm....o who was it, i dont think it was ritchie or auchenleck...well w/e u guys get teh idea :)

...And Eicke was shot down while doing reconaissance flights, but still think it would be too hard to model...when to allow them to fly out of encirclement and when not to.

How about it depending on the government? If your chief of army is relatively normal, there is a very low chance of an encircled general being captured. If the chief of army has the "insane bugger" trait (or something to that effect) the chances to have the general captured increase. :D

Stumme died of heartattack at the beggining of the battle. Shell exploded next to his vehicle. And Rommel captured O'Neal and Ritchie somewhere 'round Benghazi. They went to recon in an airplane and got lost, landed behind enemy lines and got picked up by German recon patrol. Sheer bloody bad luck.

I believe there should be a chance of a general being captured when his army is encircled. Yes, he can fly out, but what if he decides to stick around and in the end gets captured, just like Paulus.

It should not happen everytime an Army is surrounded but it should be a chance also it should depends on local air superiority of the enemy. If the enemy has control of the sky there should less of chance that a plane with a general will fly out safely.

It would be more realistic, imo.
