Poof :) I'm already together with the same girl for nearly 2 years now.

I'm slooowly working my way through the elections. But in some instances I have to think abit about how to script it best. (I'm only gonna trigger the first German elections for example when Germany is PLAYER controlled)

I agree Old Guards must be given a boost in skill but specially in rank, due to their experience, that's why I gave a 4 to Sanjurjo in nat Spain and why I gave to all those Republican old guards the rank of General. But also a negative due to the fact that they whould be reluctant to learn the new warfare style - that's the 1/3 PX learn.
I most probably have missed a large portion of the discussions here, but I can't help myself asking and/or expression my thoughts anyway

Although the idea of matching Old Guards with higher ranks sounds good, I am not so sure about the idea of higher skill.
Obviously there are many exception to the rule, but I have the impression that old/Old Guards generals historically were involved in many poor results.

I think there are examples of Generals with high age that got health problems for example. That may sound trivial, but I guess it had an impact in real life, working as a suppressor on their potential skill.
Some of the successful older Generals/FM maybe were more of 'commander in chief' or general staff officers, making use of their strategic skills, administrative skills, political skills or historical/personal reputation.

In countries where higher ranks where in inflation, maybe Old Guard could be used as a general suppressor together with low initial skill? That could allow for a historical high rank but also reflect the actual effective rank.

Well, when I talked about higher skill, I meant not to all the OG, but only those that proved to be brilliant. OG aren't going to win any new skill point so giving a 1 bonus to the ones that performed good is not too much.

Well I agree that the best leaders must have a bonus, what surprised me is that the off/def leaders are not the most renowed ones. I mean, List and Kluge, but not Manstein, Guderian or Model (who is Def/Pzleader if my memory serves). Mc Arthur but not Patton. Alexander but not Monty. Zhukov also is not off/def and that's something that surprised me also, since he is most renowed for his defensive battles (Moscow, Stalingrad, etc...)

I agree Old Guards must be given a boost in skill but specially in rank, due to their experience, that's why I gave a 4 to Sanjurjo in nat Spain and why I gave to all those Republican old guards the rank of General. Talking about bussines, I have some new volunteers recruited in the spanish forum. Some with rep minister pics, and some with nat minister pics. I hope to improve the ministers_csv files as soon as I get the photos. :)

Great... just send the pics this way..:) no the leaders are more based on what they actually did and we could not gove Zhukov all those traits anyway.

That's not true the thing about OG's not willing to learn...look at me

Yep it occured to me that you would not like the German thingy, why btw.it would make more sense if you only triggered the first election if Germany is NOT player controlled...the rest are actually for the player..:) or you could if possible just read the first election in of not player controlled.(then it will follow history as well)

Few words on OGs

I see the OG discussion has continued,so I will add some comments one of the reasons I'm changing them in the files,is because Paradox changed the whole point allocation system from the first files.so now I usually give them skill 2 (while I lower others who then will earn their spurs quicker) and a trait(have been doing this thing all my life and will continue to do so..they say..:)

usually I take either defence or logistics. But it has struck me in the various files that the old believers of the first panzer in many countries were still around.i.e Lutz for example.

actually if you use an OG all the time eventually he will earn enough for promotion,During all this the OG has expanded quite a lot since the first files, there are in some countries obviously a tradition to keep these OGs at the helm most notably Portugal,Brazil,Italy,France and Greece,Austria and Hungary .While I have added all the OGs in germany(and they were there too)
England was in the middle of a transition period, but a lot of these guys went to India. In Spain they died....and a lot of countries are actually rather young so they do not have space for OGs.

Birch,

Did we give Norways commanding general, Kristian Laake, the old guard trait? The man did retire on the 9th of April 1940 (well, in fact he did not - he was sacked early morning on the 11th. But this was classified information untill the seventies, so most historians have written that he had to retire since he had reached the age limit on the invasion day)...

Gee I thought you were dead or gone completely Victorian...:) Laake has both OG and winter as well, skill 1 it seems.

You know that when we have finished these election thingy's then we will apply fixed leaders in the 39/41 scenarios for MPs...I could surely need some help when we reach that stage... :)

Order it online! It's a very very very nice game... Very deep though. Different leader system (more like EUII) but alot of possibilities to differentiate between leaders. They all have a 'personality' and a 'background', each a very long list of possibilities, so combinations are endless

However, finding "pics" for Victoria leaders will be more difficult :D

Not really. It's quite easy to find photos of most leaders of the major nations (there are some excellent sites out there, including one with photos of almost every single french Marshal, General or Admiral of the 2nd Empire). And if you accept a painting or two, most of the minors as well.

The goal of a Victoria leadermod, must NOT be to include every obscure brigadier general that existed in the period. But rather to include the best known generals, as well as making sure that at least the major nations have at least a couple of generals available most of the time...

(and with Birch in charge, I have no doubt that we could find the obscure ones as well :D )

The Victoria leadersystem is very good (much better than HoI) but a bit too scripted for my taste. You have a tendency to get good leaders in the years your country was historically at war. And that is a strong incentive for repeating history.

The game is much more fun if you insert some bad leaders as well, so that the Confederacy might risk fighting the civil war with generals like Polk, Pillow and Twiggs, instead of Lee, Jackson and Longstreet...

I have already posted some pictures of UK, France, US, CSA, Texas and Mexico leaders. They're in black and white, but I think that gives the game a more authentic look than the original "cartoonish" pics...

Pics in Victoria should have a "painting" look. Photography was not yet invented in 1836 :)

The problem of adding too many leaders to Victoria is that... I love the random leader system! With a lot of historical leaders... no random leaders anymore! :(
