Leader on the wrong side?

I was running strategic bombing missions against Germany using an American air wing. I had Hap Arnold (Carpet Bomber) as my leader. When I was bombing provinces, a little leader symbol showed up under the German side, but not my side. The province had no units defending it.

I was attacking Vichy French and du Gualle was commanding an army.
