I'm playing a GC as Sibir 1.07 (Jan24 Beta). . . I edited the monarch file, which is working fine, and the leader file, which is not working at all (I've received no leaders since the first one). I suspect I may be using ineligible leader #s . . . two questions:

1. What leader numbers are free and available?
2. Once I fix the leader file do I have to start the game over, or can I continue to play my saved game?

Oh, and a bonus question -- in mucking around with the leader files, I've accidentally saved one (fortunately, not Sibir) as a "notebook" file. How do I change it back? (I'm using Windows -- I tried saving the file in "all files" as "Leader.xxx" where xxx= the country designation, but I get an error message that the file is read-only and can't be saved.)

(1) As a general rule, any id number above 30,000 is free. There are many below that that are free, but if you're making leaders, pick a large id range and stick to it. Its easier to track.

(2) Any changes you make to the leader file will NOT be attributed to a saved game. Therefore, if you add leaders to the leader file and want to use them for your current game, you will have to cut and paste them into your country's leader section of the save file.

Bonus: single click on the problem file. Right click and select properties. Unclick the read only file attribute section at the bottom of the properties tab. Try and save again. Another solution is to just rename the file. Right click on the file in question and select "rename". type in the new name with the new extension and you should be good to go.
