Leader bonus for assisnation

From the strategies section in the assisnation page of the wiki: http://www.ckiiwiki.com/Assassination

It states:

• Be at the target's location by leading troops (stay safe by checking the revolt risk map mode)

I assume it means your character leading with any army? For example I have a small retinue army of 250, would this help?
