So reinstalled the game to join some friends and try out the latest Lithoids DLC. But when I attempt to play the game, it stops and I get a red triangle error "Launching the game failed"

I checked up on other forums and previous issues and tried just about everything I can imagine to try to get this game to work.

1. Re-installed the game
2. Deleted the Stellaris folder from the Documents
3. Tried using the latest Beta patch
4. Restarted my Computer
5. Launched in Bordeless Window, Full Screen, and Windowed
6. Verify integrity game files
7. Removed the Paradox v2 launcher and reinstalled it

It was until I rolled back to 2.3.3 of Stallaris that I was able to get the game to run. Which is the version that is using old launcher. Then I moved up to version 2.4 / 2.4.1 and I'm backed to being unable to launch the game like before.

So far I think I narrowed it down to the new launcher is doing something funky to my game or system in the background, but me and my friends pretty much exhausted every IT "fix" we can think of.

If anyone has experienced this and has a solution, I would appreciate it if you can share.

That happens if you exit Steam entirely and run stellaris.exe by itself? If that fails too your problem is nothing to do with the launcher itself.

Yes sir. I tried that as well. I get the Stellaris title card that goes with launching the game, then nothing.

I even installed Crusader Kings II to see if I can get the same effect. That too, failed to start as well.

Then as I say your problem is nothing to do with the launcher (which is not to say it may not be having some separate issue).

Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

(run dxsetup.exe after extracting from this download)


add stellaris.exe and ck2game.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add them to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.


If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Several c06d007e crashes for stellaris.exe in that dxdiag, but none for CK2. I guess they probably have different problems.

that error is a .NET problem. Please run the .NET repair tool:

What antivirus app do you use? Some need extra steps.

Did all 4 of those MS installers run okay, any errors or problems?

The .Net framework fixing seems to worked without issue. He's launching the game now without a problem. Weird problem though that he can't seem to respond with a thank you due to the forum blocking his reply attempts for being Spam-like.

We really wanted to say thanks for all your help and getting this issue resolved in a very timely manner.
