Launcher unable to launch game

Whenever I try to launch the game now I am getting the below error message. I have tried uninstalling the game (including the folder in my documents) and reinstalling. I also verified integrity of the game files in steam.

Still getting the same error. Running a windows 10 computer and everything on it is patched and up to date.

If you run imperator.exe directly (so bypassing the launcher) does it also fail?


In the game's launcher set Display Mode to borderless, does that help?



IF not: Has the game ever run successfully on this computer? Or never?


IF IT USED TO RUN:
Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-Imperator
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Imperator AND Documents/Paradox/Imperator folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add imperator.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Imperator or Documents Imperator locations, before installing again.

Add imperator.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.

Does there exist a folder Documents/Paradox Interactive/Imperator/ ? If not, most likely you have Bitdefender or ESET and that app is getting in the way. Add imperator.exe to its Trusted List and you should be OK from there. This may also apply to other anti-virus or security apps.

Also if you have the MSI Gaming App installed, disable it as it clashes with this game.

If that doesn't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/pdx_settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/Imperator/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

The game does run normally directly from imperator.exe.

Switching to borderless didn't help.

It used to work and I went through the full uninstall/delete/reinstall procedure and added the file to my antivirus exception list.

The launcher is giving the same error.

Then I guess we do have a launcher problem after all. If you scroll right down to the end on the launcher what version do you see? It should be 2019..2.8.1


Please try this:

- exit the Steam app completely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/<UserName>/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user
- run Imperator:Rome from the Steam PLAY button

I hope that works for you!

If not though, try running imperator.exe directly. Does that at least get you into the game itself?

Thanks that solved the problem, the launcher is now launching the game normally.
